BT Caller Display - Free

I thought it might be long enough now so I tried ringing the land line via my mobile and it came up on the display "Incoming Call 00." Well I knew that anyway because ours also has a red light that flashed when you ring the number.
So what did I do wrong or is it too soon?

Check that you have your mobile set to 'show my number'.
It may be set to not allow your number to be displayed.
Try ringing from another phone as well.

I've got "send my caller identity" as on, wonder if that is it?

I am very grateful to Art for posting this on this forum as I do not read the telecoms forum and would not have spotted it and saved myself £21 pa. so once again, thanks Art. I shall be nominating you for post of the month.
Thanks for that Charlotte.

I too have put your post forward as "post of the month".
Without you finding it and posting it, BT would still be obtaining more money from me!
Art, Thank you! Lawe :wave:0 -
Got mine activated within 1 hour.
Thanks for the post OP0 -

Both this thread and the other original one at
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=65805&page=1 continue to grow with people asking similar questions.
Cant they be linked?
The posts couldn't be merged directly because they are on different boards. (The post could be moved to the Phones board and then merged, however.)
To be honest, it makes sense to leave the two threads running as separate threads, as this way the information gets through to more people. Not everybody views all the boards on a regular basis so they could miss out on the news
When the offer is more widely known, the two threads will probably be merged.
(By the way, if you do have a specific question for a Board Guide, it would be great if you could use the personal message system, as we don't get the chance to read every single post on the board, and your query could get overlooked.)
Take care. Jo.0 -
Just applied, brilliant....I knew my little phone screen was destined for better free stuff.

I'm amazed how many people never had caller display enabled in the first place, most people had caller display enabled phones yet hadn't subscribed to the service.
Now it is free I can already see more people taking up the option.
When I first heard about this the end of last month, I kept checking back and then the 1 July came around and was able to switch from paying for caller display to receiving it for free, many thanks to the original poster of this information. The switch from paying for the service to it being free has been seamless.
Another thing I am surprised about too is the number of people not knowing that the code to route calls back to BT from any CPS provider is 1280, when I signed up with TalkTalk it was listed on their site that to route calls back I had to dial 1280, also BT sent out a letter when I switched detailing the code, I take it BT no longer send or do not send to all this information. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -

Only my local calls go through BT
Why only local calls, what's the significance?
BT charge the same rate for national calls as they do local calls.
If you are using another provider for national calls because they are cheaper, then they must be cheaper for the local calls too, unless you are actually paying this other provider more than BT for national calls, but that wouldn't make sense. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc...
