Octopus Fixed Tariffs 2026

Who knows
Even today a nice sunny day with a breeze (round here) Should be prime green production weather.
Via National grid live Gas is @ 35% of electric production. (13:13)
If current gulf conflict carries on then that could easily swallow any potential price reduction 🤷♀️

Yes of-course you will get it. You're suggesting that they will have the same tariff with two different prices which would be daft - they'd give them two different names to avoid confusion! The rates will be reduced on April 1st and you will get them from then if you're already on it, or if later from whatever date you join.

you make it sound obvious. cheers.

not sure what your saying. fixed tariffs are fixed. the April 1st reductions are coming or maybe not?

I'm saying that the predicted reductions may not come due to the increase in gas prices & it's effect on electric prices.
Even today gas is a major part of electric production.
Some suppliers have said they will drop current fixes in April to cover the reduction. But t hat is going to depend on what happens to prices.

ok. i had assumed the reduction was set like a new cap is set regardless of whats happening.

If you look on the Octopus site and request a quote (no need to login), you will see the fixed tariff currently on sale. It will show the detail you will pay today (or whenever they can first switch you to it) and the detail effective April 1st.
No one knows what will be on sale on April 8th.
I think with Octopus, if you are a current customer on a fixed tariff, you can choose a new tariff within 49 days of the scheduled maturity date, and the tariff you select can be applied from that maturity date.
Worth checking a comparison site to see if Octopus are still the best supplier for you.

The announced reductions to take effect in April are due to some fixed costs being taken out of unit prices. This change will not be affected by the wholesale gas price.

I'd agree that the current spike in wholesale prices shouldn't affect what has been put in place for 1st April. Remember that the price cap is based on what has already happened, not what is happening right now, or what is projected to happen. the current spike in prices will affect the price cap for July, as and when that is set.

My old fix finished on April 4th but my new one starts on April 1st, presumably Octopus were kind enough to start it with whatever was cheapest, not complaining anyway (for once!). I do wonder if some of the old fixes that have a lot longer to go will actually get the reduction if prices spike in April, Ofgem tend to look after the suppliers rather than the consumers - on the other hand, they might just make a huge increase in July to make up for it. If the gas goes crazy I will just keep it shut off, that fix ends much later in the year. Locally, pump petrol prices have not yet changed, as a motorcyclist just my luck to get hammered as the riding season begins.
