I think someone made a mistake with that figure.
If you compare the standard fix Vs the low SC fix, the breakeven is 7,500ish kWh of gas.

Agreed. The much larger value is comparing against the current SVT. I posted the calculations for Southern region a few days ago.

IOuchy - that low SC tariff has now sent the gas unit rate to north of 8p/kWh for us which feels pretty steep.

ughhh, the Cheap Energy Club comparison tool seems buggy, I got very interested when I saw the Tariff from Octopus with lower standing charges, unfortunately my energy use is below the required numbers, so im not sure why it would show it in the comparison list when i'm not eligible 😡

Would you normally expect Octopus to contact you a certain time before the end of a fix? Mine finishes on 29 August or thereabouts, and I've heard nothing from them yet.
