Lots to think about.

However, @pete-20-11 I'm not going to assume our usage stays the same, as a bad winter/spring could quickly undo the small savings.

If we stay with octopus, it'll be on their standard fix, not a low SC one.

We don't "need" to save every penny, but we still want to try and get a decent fix.

Fair enough. I just compared the two fixes and decided it was worth it.

I didn't consider the bad winter element, but then I have air conditioning which I can use instead of gas heating, so I can balance a little between gas usage and electricity usage.

Not wishing to muddy the waters for you further, but the current Octopus fix

would cost you £1149.06 based upon the previously stated usage.

Obviously , if you change the usage, the costs will change, and not necessarily in proportion to each other.

What you need to to is estimate what may be the minimum & maximum usage figures and run the figures. If you are lucky, you will come out with a consistent "winner"; if not you will need to take a view on the results.

Note that with Octopus (and some other suppliers), you can mix & match their tariffs so have electricity on one tariff and gas on another. You may need to call the supplier to arrange that rather than hoping to achieve it online.

I read some earlier posts, perhaps on another thread, (which I have not verified) that suggested for gas at least, you'd be better off on the Octopus Low SC tariff for gas compared to their standard fix for usages less than about 80,000kWh (i.e. almost everyone!, so be quick as they will only accept the first 33000 eligible customers). That was based on v1 I think, but v2 is not that much more expensive.

If you compare the standard fix Vs the low SC fix, the breakeven is 7,500ish kWh of gas.

Thanks. That figure does seem much more realistic to me.

Just goes to show everyone need to verify for themselves the accuracy of any comments posted before deciding to act on them.

Agreed. The much larger value is comparing against the current SVT. I posted the calculations for Southern region a few days ago.

We decided to go with Fuse Energy, although it was the V8 by the time I got round to it!!
