Yes. I heard from Octopus exactly two weeks before the end of my fix.

Me too for the email from Octopus appearing exactly two weeks prior to my fix ending.
I'm not keen to leave Octopus, but their fixes have shot up to being more expensive than the price cap and a fix with Fuse came up that's almost £140 a year cheaper so I'm off to try them for a year. I thought about just going onto the variable tariff and waiting for the possibility of better fixes being available again, but that Fuse fix was enough of a deal to convince me. Also considered the low S/C deals but I'm borderline on gas usage, and that's with relatively mild winters with fairly short cold snaps in the past few years, so a bit of a risk if we ended up with a cold winter.

Do the terms says what happens if you exceed the stated kWh? Can they rebill you at SVT or do they simply kick you off when you pass the limit? (probably near end of winter so you don't mind then)

I would expect that Octopus etc. would continue billing you at the low SC tariff rate.
As far as I know there is no upper limit, but above a certain amount of energy it works out more expensive to be on the low SC tariff than the SVT.

Just done exactly the same. Considered the low S/C deal from Octopus but played around with the figures and it didn't look as if it would save enough for the gamble.

exactly the same. the tool directs me to it, but when i go on octopus site, it does not show up.
some google search later, turns out it is because my gas consumption is slightly under the limit (2300kwh instead of min 2,836).. i have a 70s terraced house 3 bed in london, average insulation (loft but quite old double glaze and no cavity wall), but a recent good boiler and using tado.. so nothing that special and certainly not a second home!

I'm borderline with the two tariffs. The last few years haven't been that harsh over winter, so my electricity has been about 1600 and gas around 5700 - 7000. But in the cold winter of 2020, that went up to about 2200-2300 E and 10K - 13K G.
It can make such a difference in tariff selection!
