The fixed vs fixed again is looking - as per the EOn in MSE article - as if its based on low TDCV (albeit for now the old one - so the future versions - IF any - might use the newly reduced 1600 and 6000 for low TDCVs).

IIRC Ofgem were leaning to restricting the offer from all electric users at one stage - seems from the Octopus examples above - quoting new e7 versions - they are allowing it for low all electric users.

I dont know why I missed it earlier from quote examples - but the Octopus offer is limited to 33,000 customers. EOn was 25k, EDF ?

And the minimum consumptions are 666, 2836 gas - will that be high enough to exclude solar / battery homes ?

As I use about 900 KWh per year, I've just taken that as my electric fix.

£30/yr saving over everything else on offer.

Last fix ended in March, and I'd been on the SVR (Flexible Octopus) since, hoping for something better before winter.

Switched tariff via the app too, which saved me emailing them.

(Gas is already fixed, until November.)

May I ask, did you compare the whole of market as I find the saving claimed to be somewhat high?

I appreciate it may well vary by region and I have only looked at some random supply regions.

For 900kWh of electricity, I found the following:

Eastern Region: Cost is about £372 per year with Octopus Low SC
Fuse Energy - Jul 2026 Fixed (15m) v5 is about £2 more per year
At the behginning of the month, Fuse Energy - Jun 2026 Fixed (15m) v14 was about £2 less per year

East Midlands Region: Cost would be £361 per year with Octopus Low SC
Fuse Energy July 2026 Fixed (15m) V5 is the same price (give or take a few pennies)
At the beginning of the month, EDF was about £8 per year more (EDF - Exclusive Jul27v3)
In late February (i.e within your switching window of your previous fix), you could have got EDF - Simply Tracker Extra Jun27 - that's about £10 per year more at current prices (variable) - it would have been cheaper before, and you could have also got £35 cashback from MSE (£70 for dual fuel) which was available to both new & existing customers. This tariff lasts until June 2027, so on a par with the Octopus Low SC tariff, but it is variable (so you may pay more or less each quarter - it tracks the price cap but is £50 per fuel cheaper via a guaranteed discount to the SC). If the price cap does increase significantly in future, it only has a £25 per fuel early exit fee. (current estimates from various sources suggest little change is expected to the price cap over the next 12m, but that does not factor in Trump's latest tantrum.)

West Midlands Region: Cost would be £385 per year with Octopus Low SC
Fuse Energy - Jul 2026 Fixed (15m) v5 is about £2 less per year
Or there was the EDF - Exclusive Jul27v3 at the beginning of the month for £7 more

As I say, I have only compared some regions and only some tariffs (some of which are no longer available to new applicants) - it was just details of tariffs I happen to have on file. But there is a common trend emerging…

ETA, Sorry, I should have said that that £30/yr saving, was only against Octopus SVR and regular fixed tariff, based off my own maths.

I did also have a check of the mse cheap energy club, and there were a few that were close, and a Fuse one that would have cost nigh on the same, and Fuse's SEG export is 1p better.....

But I REALLY like the Octopus mini and live data. My billing is accurate, and they bill me per calendar month, after I requested that years ago.

So yes, I could earn some more on export, and Fuse may be good on all those other things, but sometimes, you just want to stick with what you know, and what works.

I'm all for money saving, but the tentacled ones have hooked me in, with the mini.

I think they got to v8 on the standard June fix.

Given UK natural gas up about 10p a therm in last 2 days (today after last nights round ? just c 2.3p but back to 119p/therm from a recent spot low of 92p - but realistically 100p level post MoU)

And just checked the quote for EM region for SR / Gas I posted above - SC's the same but rates up

Standard

SR 23.32 to 24.25 - up 0.93p

Gas 6.17 to 6.56 - up 0.39p

Low SC

SR 26.93 to 27.86 - up 0.93p - so same

Gas 7.3 to 7.69p - up 0.39p - so same

Havent crunched the numbers - but suspect that means sticking with the old 1800/7500 kWh TDCVs - for now ?.

We're Low(ish) users. E = 1120, G = 8986

Not sure it's worth the gamble, as we're on the bubble, and we'd possibly only save a few £

We're East Midlands, so I appreciate the figures may vary slightly.

Current fix ends early September... decisions decisions.

Just do the maths. Assume your usage won't change. Look at the normal and low SC fixes and compare the two.

We're now onto v2 of the Octopus 12M Fixed Low SC July 2026 tariff (v1 is no longer available to new applicants)

For you, Octopus would cost £1141.24 pa based upon your assumed annual usage (£50 per fuel early exit fees apply)

By contrast. Fuse Energy July 2026 Fixed (15m) V6 would cost you just £1050.03 pa (£50 per fuel early exit fees apply)

Home Energy Fair Variable Dual would cost you £1051.67 pa (note it is a variable tariff, so no early exit fees apply, but has consistently undercut the official price cap. Past performance is not a guarantee of future performance, etc

Outfox Energy Outfox the Price Cap - Fix'd DUAL July 2026 - 15M V8 would cost £1072.53 (£75 per fuel early exit fees apply, although they may allow you to transfer tariffs for free after 6 months and the new tariff is longer - check the terms)

even Good Energy 12m Fix Jul26 could save you about a tenner pa compared to the Octopus tariff (but £75 per fuel early exit fees apply)

Not intended as a full and comprehensive list, but you can see there many cheaper options. Do your own research.

Edit: If your current tariff is subject to EEFs, then I suggest you leave it a few days until your switching window opens. It's unlikely you could save the cost of the EEFs otherwise.. Any/all of the above tariffs may no longer be available to new applicants then. You may be able to apply today and delay the actual switch until you are in the switching window, but it's risky.
