The August v6 saves about 4% on gas over July v1 so I would say they are getting more competitive. It just depends how long this tariff lasts and what replaces it.

Octopus September v1 fix is available. Gas may be better for some. Watch the standing charge though

Yes, the day rate is fractionally lower for me, but the higher standing charge wipes out any saving and then some.

May 25 v1 remains cheaper for me for gas,  but the current fix is very close now, so will be watching for any downward movement.

I'm on may gas v1 too. I have been expecting to ride the winter out on that but would be nice to be lower. I only have 3 months left on my elec fix though and new fix price is much higher.

Fixed now September V2 slight increase
  • Looking at my options via Cheap Energy Club it looks like Octopus are now simply uncompetitive. Much as I like their app I cannot justify an additional £20 per month. Time for a switch.

For those who like the flexibility of no exit fees it's probably best. If you don't mind exit fees then there are much cheaper alternatives .

That said, if you can make the tou tariffs work for you,  Octopus makes a lot of sense.

Unit rate now nudging .25p cheaper on gas for me now (against July V1) but that higher SC is stopping me jumping at the moment...that said, with the heating likely going on any time, it may be time to jump...
