That was / is fully my intention - except that there must be hurdles to stop us from doing so.

But if new & better tariffs keep on coming out every few weeks, why not just give us the option to move tariff online and save their staff the hassle?

None at all. I moved to the V3 version of the March fix on 17th March, and the V4 version on 27th. A five minute phone call on both occasions.

Their website is a little bit of a disappointment, to be honest. It does a lot of things reallty well but useful features come and go, almost at random, and it seems to be a "perpetual beta" inasmuch as yu never know if the function you're looking for will be there next time you visit.

And a signpost or site roadmap wouldn't do any harm. Most if not all of the relevant  info is there but hidden in a variety of folders. Keeps their Helpline and Twitter dept in business I suppose. I am about to put it to the test ...

Change appeared to work, I am on the new gas tariff today and also still on variable direct debit.  Ends may 2026.  I will check tracker when winter comes to decide if I move back to that or not, otherwise I am covered against future increases for the entirety of next winter now.

Logical enough. Except that when  you think  you are on variable D/D and can forget about it -  you can't !
I'm thinking of updating my 14-M Fix. For both fuels even though this is not strictly necessary.
My logic for what it's worth says that if the cap is going to rise in April, Tracker is likely to follow suit.

also keep checking on here for future tariffs that might be cheaper than your current deal and simpy renew and extend that end date
