I have no experience of Fuse so I'm neither pro or anti.
    • What are these 'sharp practices'?
    • Many suppliers take a DD payment upfront, much the same as a landline supplier will charge the line rental in advance and calls in arrears.
    • Many suppliers withdraw tariffs without notice.  Sometimes they last only days, or even hours.
It would be helpful to provide much more detail.
  • Experienced sharp practice and awful service with Fuse, asking for up front payments, then stating that the tariff offered wasn’t available anymore, then making up the switch and there’s no one to call only text chat & email which take ages to get a response to, plus a very basic app & website. Regret the decision, they look cheap and act cheap, doubtless they’ll go bust soon like all the other to good to be true suppliers.
Maybe you can expand on what these "sharp practices" are as my experience has been the total opposite to yours.

You'll be disappointed if you switch to Octopus.  They will take an upfront payment.  See 8.4 of their latest Ts & Cs (V.3.8).
"We typically ask for a deposit or payment in advance of connecting your supply. The amount to be paid may be based on your credit history according to a credit reference agency."

I had a couple of hiccups at the start with Fuse over tariffs but I'm not sure whether that was Uswitch's fault or Fuse's. It was put right after a couple of chats and I'm on the tariff I signed up for.
Not sure about "upfront" payments ? I pay on the 8th month for the previous month's usage - so in arrears.
Finally I've had responses to my queries via chat within hours - contrast that with EDF who took literally  2 days to get back to me - and then clearly didn't understand my query or Octopus, whose customer service, in my experience anyway ,has gone to the dogs!

@ Brewerdave Likewise no upfront payments just a very prompt collection by DD of my MVDD on the 5th of September for August. Very satisfied with Fuse and their App though it took some getting used to as does their Chat and responses once you get past AI.

Another satisfied Fuse customer here. Just renewed with them (OFTM were very marginally cheaper but I prefer the monthly variable DD). Never had to make any up-front payments or use the chat system; the monthly bill comes through within a couple of days without fail followed by the DD payment a few days later

That octopus upfront payment was in the terms and conditions but never asked for and I changed to variable direct debit once signed up so might be there if you are red-flagged by the credit agencies.
