molerat said:First Fuse bill today, their maths is different to what I learnt at schoolTotal bill - £74.34 inc £3.71 VAT. £74.34 / 1.05 = £70.80 so £3.54 VAT which is what my calculation gave.edit. just worked it out, £3.71 is 5% of the total bill so they are making the old schoolboy error.Gas meter opening read 99.503, closing read 144.003 = 44.388 cu m, when I went to school that sum came to 44.5.The maths used on the PDF bill also don't add up but the amount charged is correct, they have short cut the conversion by dividing 1.02264 / 3.6 and giving a slightly out number. The actual bill is correct for their stated consumption and the correct gas conversion was used - although I do have some concerns in the number of decimal places used in the CV as they show 3 but this time my calculation from the NG data, and the figure used on the bill, worked that out at exactly 39.5Electric was pretty straightforward and correct. All pretty amateurish TBH.
Initially the CSA tried to fob me off with an explanation about the time of meter readings !!
After toing and froing "Oliver" assures me that altho the "reading values do not directly show the maths" the bill is correct! He also said that a billing update is due next month that will better explain the calculations. Hope so - because the current statement is possibly in breach of OFGEM licensing conditions.
To get mine "correct" I have to use the conversion factor of 1.02264/3.6 rather than their 0.284 AND a different (higher) calorific value !0 -
My gas bill was 7p less than working it out properly so I am not going to complain, makes up a bit for them using the average cv correctly against my old supplier using a fixed cv - against the rules but no one is going to complain as it was definitely in the customer's favour0

This is intentional on my part. If I transfer my credit with EDF to Fuse Energy by making a one-off payment so my account with them is in credit, will they also allow me to have a direct debit set lower than my usage so my credit slowly reduces? Is the direct variable or fixed? Can I choose to have a fixed direct debit if they put me on a variable direct debit? Can I choose my direct debit date? When I asked Fuse Energy about this, they said that the date can't be changed, however I will be invoiced on the second working day of each month, with payment debited from my account 3-5 days later. Their reply almost implies that my direct will be variable and it certainly implies that I can't choose the direct debit date - something I've never heard of before!0

As far as I am aware, Fuse only use variable direct debit niyaz. You will have given them your.bank details to set this up for payment each month. Because your bills will be different each month that's why it's called variable.0

Warning! Fuse Energy have withdrawn their Smart EV 5p overnight EV tariff which is still listed on the MSE site (see below). I only discovered this after I had already switched from Octopus who currently offer a 8.5p overnight tariff.
I had completed my research meticulously before switching and was looking forward to a substantial reduction in my energy bills at the rates Fuse were advertising.
I switched yesterday and after the smart meter connected and sent info over 24 hours I was able to research switching electric tariffs on their app.
The EV rate I mentioned was nowhere to be seen so I checked my messages from Fuse. On the very day of the switch they had stated that it was still available.
However, on a chat with one of their operators, I was informed it had been withdrawn.
I have cancelled the switch and would advise anyone thinking of switching to think carefully!0 -

@sarkymark - was it fixed period rate offer for o/n charging?. If so, might have been worth pursuing .
I signed up for a 13 month fix with them in August and had a similar experience when they tried to put me on a more expensive deal. After a few chats they agreed to honour the original switching tariff .
EDIT Doesn't look as if the Smart EV Tariff is fixed ?0 -
My bad on the MSE listing. Yes, MSE had changed it. I was just so upset at Fuse that I did not study the MSE tab. Apologies!
However, Fuse still screwed me over and I don't recommend them at all!
Thanks!1 -

I have the screenshots from their 5 p tariff but since they don't do it anymore and I switched back it seems kinda pointless to post it.

- You should ignore any figures in red or to the right of the decimal point. So the opening read was 99m³.
- Unless you moved away from Fuse almost immediately, the next reading won't be the closing reading. It's 144m³.
- The billed consumption is the difference between the readings, not the sum.
Therefore for billing purposes your monthly consumption of 45m³ was slightly higher than your calculation.0
