  • Am I being completely stupid - what is the meter number you are asked for when clicking the Tomato energy link to submit a meter reading?

There three lines of numbers to enter - They already have the MPAN shown on the web page so I have no idea what they are asking for.

they ask for meter reading, not for meter number... it just shows how they can't do basic things properly

    Posted yesterday...

Friends, Romans, Countrymen... ahem.. Hi everyone...
First of all, I am extremely grateful for the love, support, enthusiasm, commitment and everything you have shown us at Tomato Energy. What has happened is extremely sad but we dust ourselves off and we move on. We apply the lesson's learnt and we move on - that is life. It is sad. Extremely sad but it is not over yet. Just wanted to let you to know we have not abandoned anything in our plans... just the legal processes do have an impact and restrict what we can and cannot do...

    So some updates

    1. myWatts
We plan to continue myWatts for ex-Tomato customers to continue using it with whoever they move on to.. British Gas or not. Work is underway to open it up to support Gas too for customers.

We are now inviting Beta testers who can use the app to help us fine tune it.

    1.1 ex-Tomato myWatts Users
If you are an ex-Tomato customer(and previously used myWatts at any stage in the life of Tomato) who wants to join the beta program, please use this link to express your interest and we will send you an email.

We will send an invite for every ex-Tomato user to join once the Beta program is complete.

1.2 non Tomato myWatts Potential Users
If you are not an ex-Tomato customer but would like to participate in the Beta, please use this form to express your interest.

    https://forms.gle/4dXvMg1uWutZ1Lvo7

Depending on how many responses we get, everybody who responds maybe invited or only some maybe invited.

We are planning early December for general availability.

    2. Tomatopia

Our vision for Tomatopia - the Utopian City of Tomorrow - is a world powered by the original energy source it has always had access to - the Sun! It would be very uncharacteristic if we were to just give up on such a vision. The fastest growing energy source in the world today is the energy captured from the Sun.

    Please welcome 1Sun

Thats going to be the new name. The website is being developed.

For existing Tomatopia customers, we are working on an explainer that will make it easy to understand the next steps but we have agreed with British Gas all the customers will be transferred to our pre arranged licensed supplier.

The fixed monthly payments will then resume(with catchup plans) and the program will also be opened to new customers. We will update the terms to ensure any future scenario does not affect customers.

    Just to clarify,

Nobody will be billed by their energy supplier for any marginal electricity used. Senapt/Senapt Assets have full responsibility for that - which was the arrangement with Tomato Energy anyways.

The only thing changing here is that Tomato Energy will be substituted with another Energy Supplier. Nothing else changes and we will also ensure there is no more direct impact in any future scenarios if our preferred supplier were to enter into administration.

1Sun will also have new subscription options that I am sure will break new ground. A small initial website for 1Sun will be released next week and the process can commence.

An internal support team will be assembled next week to ensure customers have all the support they need and new telephone numbers, contact email addresses etc will become available next week.

Sorry to anyone who has been in the dark. I had to ensure these are pre-agreed with British Gas before we could share with you but gad to let you know it is all done. I will keep sharing with you all as we progress.

    3. Final Billing and Tomato Related Enquiries.

Given we are no longer directors of Tomato Energy, we can only offer very minimal support but the administrators have taken over the management of the business. I don't want to sound like I am abandoning you - far from that but I could have criminal action against me personally if I involve in Tomato Energy indirectly so I would advice checking the Tomato Energy Website for further help and support if needed.(This feels so sad to write).

    4. I genuinely love this team and the people here - everyone - even those from our competitors - In the end, it was worth the effort even if it wasn't the result we hoped for.

Onwards and upwards, the sky is our limit!!

    He seems serious.

It beggars belief to me that he is already openly touting a rebirth of the Tomatopia and MyWatts offerings, whilst leaving a trail of destruction and creditors behind him.

    There's an idea.
Tomato Energy's various business decisions would make a lot more sense if viewed as a piece of performance art.

So do you just enter your meter reading three times? Mine shows three boxes of 5 digits each labelled 1, 2, 3 and won't let me submit until there is something in each.
  • You could try submitting the reading in MyWatts instead... my reading via the link had been updated in MyWatts when I went to check

    When Tomato's email asks for:
To ensure accurate final billing please enter your meter reading through myWatts app or portal, or by clicking the button below:
Do they expect current reading? Or from a week ago?

Anyway, can't either side of the deal just upload data from smart meters?

The process seems overly complicated and rigid, I assume because there is elements of distrust, are customer readings trustworthy, either supplier as well who might want to maximise revenue.
I feel if its a smart meter, like you said fetch the data for midnight from it add it to the system as a API, so when supplier is moved its scripted to fetch it at midnight on the day of the move.
