Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?

Customer credit would be protected and dealt with by the SOLR I believe, but if your compensation was not yet applied to the account as a credit and/or if you had already left Tomato in favour of a switch elsewhere, you will be treated as A.N.Other creditor and will be at the bottom of the list I imagine - at best, pennies in the pound but I suspect not even that.Chrysalis said:Doc_N said:
I’d hazard a guess that any overpayment will be safe, because of the Ofgem protection, but not any compensation. The administrator has an obligation to pay only what’s legally required to be paid, and since there’s no legal requirement for a company to comply with an Ombudsman decision it’s possible that it won’t be paid.wakeupalarm said:I have an ombudsman decision against Tomato Energy, they have failed to implement all of the remedy's ordered by the ombudsman by the deadline which was almost 2 weeks ago.
They have overcharged me and have been ordered to recalculate my bills and issue a letter of apology, although they have paid me a goodwill payment for other matters.
As Tomato Energy are likely to appoint administrators on/after Friday, are the remedy's ordered by the ombudsman binding on administrators or not?
As they have overcharged me can I refuse to pay my final bill with them and then argue with the administrator?
I am not sure if Ofgem protections will mean anything in the hand of the administrators, I am treating my £80 compensation as lost at this point even though its a mandated Ofgem protection. Customers owed money if I am right are just low priority creditors.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Tomato have always added random meter readings, usually lower than the ones recorded on my smart meter - presume that's what your most recent meter reading is. As bagand96 says that may have been to reconcile with their billed half-hourly data, but in my case it didn't always reconcile...Somebody said:On changeover day I submitted a reading, which is on Mywatts (and taken by the new supplier). I have a more recent November reading on there which is 56kWh lower than the reading I submitted!jadex said:When Tomato's email asks for:
To ensure accurate final billing please enter your meter reading through myWatts app or portal, or by clicking the button below:
Do they expect current reading? Or from a week ago?It will be your reading from yesterday, the 18th, as that is the day BG (the SOLR) have now confirmed they will be billing from.I've already uploaded readings on the 5th and the 11th, (not sure what they will do with those!), and did wonder if I could put in a backdated reading (as I had one for the 9th - changeover day - but didn't upload at the time), but couldn't see any way of adding a date to a meter read, so I think any read you submit will be assumed to be for the date you add it.Whether, or how, Tomato customers will be billed for the period up to the 18th is yet to be confirmed!

Does anyone know when we can start the switch process from BG?
I did a password reset on my Tomato Energy email address at BG and logged into a BG account tat was there. It says it can't show me an account balance yet, but I do have an account number.
No way I'm staying on their tariffs so waiting to pull the switch trigger.0 -
We were told that once we had an account number we should be able to switch; guessing that whether it goes through might be dependent on whether or not you have submitted your final meter read.In my account BG are offering options to switch to any of their other tariffs now, and my "great value" Welcome Tomato Energy tariff says it has expired, but also that the "quote" is valid until 8th December...BG are said to be working on tariffs which might be appealing to Tomato customers, but they need to get a move on or I think all will have fled!0

If I were in your shoes I would be waiting until I was totally confident that my BG account was all set up fully.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

It should be an account number and have set up a payment method, as there will always be a small amount to be billed.LessImpecunious said:We were told that once we had an account number we should be able to switch; guessing that whether it goes through might be dependent on whether or not you have submitted your final meter read.1 -
The Welcome Tomato Tariff has been set up (mine at least) as "Pay on receipt of bill", so wonder whether that needs a payment method set in advance? BG haven't (yet) asked for me to set up a payment method, but haven't had their "Welcome Pack" yet either, so maybe that will come with that...0

No reason not to try a switch then if you want to move ASAP.LessImpecunious said:The Welcome Tomato Tariff has been set up (mine at least) as "Pay on receipt of bill", so wonder whether that needs a payment method set in advance? Agreed - if they don't have something in place soon everyone will leave. I can only assume Tomato customers were probably on their tariffs for a reason, like me with batteries, so I'm outta here if theres no good night discount.LessImpecunious said:We were told that once we had an account number we should be able to switch; guessing that whether it goes through might be dependent on whether or not you have submitted your final meter read.In my account BG are offering options to switch to any of their other tariffs now, and my "great value" Welcome Tomato Energy tariff says it has expired, but also that the "quote" is valid until 8th December...BG are said to be working on tariffs which might be appealing to Tomato customers, but they need to get a move on or I think all will have fled!
I'll do a meter reading which just shows what a mess this whole system is. Smart meters should be the easiest thing to transfer with you would think.1 -
It seems as though my suspicions were correct.lohr500 said:If it's the independent auditors appointed by the business, then I have a fair idea why they may have resigned!!!
