Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?
Looking at Tomato Energy for our electric only property.
They are offering 12M FIXED Tariffs which are based on your chosen lifestyle - with Daily Standing Charge as low as 40.82p
The tariff Im looking at gives me a Unit Rate of;
00:00 to 06:00 = 5.00p
06:00 to 09:30 = 23.16p
09:30 to 11:30 = 13.37p
11:30 to 22:00 = 23.16p
22:00 to 00:00 = 13.37p
Its the low Standing Charge that appeals most - with the few reduced hours a bonus on top.
These are FIXED for 12 Months
Is anyone with Tomato?

This type of tariff has caught the eye of many EV owners in other groups I am in but none have taken the plunge.0 -
My thinking is you only pay for your usage by DD once they issue a bill after each month - so no money tied up with them.
IF they go under, I can always go back to Octopus etc and be no worse off.
It's the "fix your own tariff" options which are fun to play around with - options like battery storage, work from home, pensioner etc etc which when ticked/unticked give different FIXED tariffs.
Certainly not something Ive come across before.
I did a calculation for a property I own and my Octopus Fix comes in at £838 based on confirmed annual usage, where the Tomato one would fix at £751 based on the same usage (not taking into account the bonus drops in rates too)0 -
Let us know how you get on, competition is alive if they survive0

I just signed up two properties and all looks good - very smooth access onto their dashboard.
The properties are both under the same address but with different MPANS and they went through no problem - Ive found some suppliers struggled with that issue before.
Set to change on September 1st so fingers crossed0 -

I think they score over Octopus on website design. I can see them catching on.0 -
They currently have a "advanced sign up" option to get FIXED electricity rates for 10 years with FREE solar and FREE Battery Storage.
You get the free energy from the solar and battery with any excess given (not sold) back to the grid.
There is a charge "from" £80/month so unsure exactly how it all works.
Not really my thing at present but Im sure some with better knowledge will delve into it and find it useful (or not).0 -
Day 1 progress.....
- Dashboard all working for both meters ready to be transferred.
- DD Mandate emailed
- Contract (with correct rates) Received
I know its mostly automated stuff but Ive had Utilita and Octopus mess those up before now.
Not much else to happen now until September 1st change date - no doubt the Octopus "sorry you're leaving" emails will arrive later.

Tomato lifestyle seems to be the most flexible at first glance.1 -
Yes, I have a spreadsheet for just that......

I'm trying to find out rates/how they work for the different tariffs (just out of curiosity) but it's ONLY showing me details for Lifestyle, none of the others. Despite clicking on the others.
Would be really frustrating if I were seriously considering wanting to switch (and on the face of it these are the types of tariff that would get me to consider it).0
