Tomato Energy (Electric Only Supplier) - Too Good To Be True ?

ppc1 said:Hello, My switch went ahead with Tomato Energy last Monday 19th August. I now have access in my opinion a crap app called Mywatts but none of my SMETS 2 smart data is being pulled. Tomato say my switch has gone across to them but my supplier is still showing as Octopus on my actual smart meter at the wall and on the national meter database.
The staff on the phone line are friendly enough when you get through to them but I am not convinced they are that tech savvy. I will be sending a complaint to them tomorrow as I was previously on Octopus tracker and I chose the Tomato Lifestyle tariff to load shift my energy to early morning to save money. I hope they get the smart data working correctly or there was no point in me switching to them.
My smart SMET2 smart meter was working correctly with Octopus and previously with EDF who fitted the meters in 2019.
Maybe some of you lovely MSE energy peeps can help me here. My smart meter is currently showing single rate. Does Tomato have to change it to like a multi rate meter?
Also my smart data is pulling correctly on the Hugo app and Loop app from the DCC.
Thank you
Are you any further forward in getting data from the myWatts app following your switch?
I am in a similar situation.
Switch should have happened yesterday.
Nothing on myWatts
SMETS2 meter still shows EDF as supplier.
EDF website now shows minimal info so I suspect switch has occured.
No communication from EDF or TE.
Usage data still available on Bright App so meter is still communicating.
I am going to call TE this afternoon when I get home to ask them if the switch has happened and how I can make sure the agreed you rates are being applied.
Interested to hear how you are getting on.

So long as Tomato Energy can get your readings then they can retroactively apply the appropriate tariffs when they get around to working out your bill. I recommend you download and keep a record of your half-hourly usage data so you can check they do their calculations correctly.Reed1

I already have a spreadsheet set up where I downloaded the past year's half hourly data so I could model the impact of moving to TE.
I can just add the more recent data to the spreadsheet and copy down the formulae into the new rows.
I'm still not clear though if the tou hours are permanently on GMT or if they move with GMT/BST.
I'll ask the question when I phone them.0 -
I'm on an EV tariff with Eon Next but my meter only records data on one register. Eon Next seem to generate statements at random intervals. I strongly suspect this just happens when somebody gets around to doing it, whereupon they take my half hourly data and feed it into the bill calculating computer.Reed0

Thinking of joining OP on move to Tomato, I'm electric only and standard meter.
Currently on Octopus paying SC 64.97p Unit 23.23p if I fix for a year it's SC 64.97p Unit 25.59p If it don't fix I expect unit rate to be about 25.50p come October.
When enquiring with Tomato I get
So my reading with Tomato it's SC 60.35p Unit 20.91p fixed for a year.
I know it's possible Tomato might fold, but if excluding that risk seems like a no-brainer to move, or am I reading the figures wrong?

I'll ask the question when I phone them.- She confirmed that the switch did happen yesterday.
- She said there is a problem with their myWatts reporting website and delays in getting it to display new customers' usage information. She did confirm that they could see the meter readings I entered on Tuesday as requested.
- She also said it could take a few days for the Smart Meter to receive an update to replace the EDF tariff data.
- The lady I spoke to wasn't sure if the meter would then use just one register or three.
- She seemed reasonably confident that the tou hours were based on the actual time of day, regardless of GMT or BST. I'm still not convinced so will try to check this out as soon as I see some billing data from them. However, I think I am correct in saying that's how Octopus multiple t.o.u. tariffs work as well.

I thought this was normally the case?0 -

Do a Quote Request with Tomato and tell it you have a storage battery - your standing charge will come down to 40p
For several hours at night its 5p and for a period during the day its 13p - the rest are around 22p (IIRC)
Unsure if they later check to see if you are drawing energy during the night to charge your battery - I will wait and see with mine.
I go live at the weekend.
Ive done a few switches now on 5 properties I own and ALL of them have taken 2 weeks before all the various systems gel together properly - had it with Octopus and E.On before so I know if it happens with Tomato it wont be a one off that's only happening with them.

No I am no further forward with Tomato. I sent a formal complaint to them on Monday by email but I have not heard a thing from them, not even courtesy holding email.
I am working from home tomorrow so I will be sure to call them to try and get an update of some sort.
I tried joining the Tomato energy Facebook users group yesterday but I have not been accepted yet.
Hopefully it will get sorted soon. First impressions are not good tbf.1
