We've heard back from our forum provider. 
It seems like our 'Release Notes' were mistaken, and this fix isn't actually due for a few more weeks!

My apologies! 
We can often test in advance if something has been fixed, but as this isn't a bug I can reproduce, I have to rely on Forumites to let me know if things are working correctly.

Thanks for the update, but yes, it's still occurring - out of curiosity, which combination of device(s) and browser(s) do you use if you haven't seen it?!

I've never been able to reproduce this problem on any browser on Macbook - Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge

There are so many people complaining it MUST be true, just because you cannot replicate it doesn't mean it isn't an annoyance for every other user.  Do you need someone to post  video of the issue?  Today it is even worse as there is one post that I have read (Sooooo many times) and clicked back and reload/refresh and it is still showing as not read!

Hi @Le_Kirk

If you re-read this thread, you'll see that I have mentioned I've been able to reproduce it, and there have been acknowledgements that a fix is on its way.

The posts immediately above were just to point out that as I don't experience it on my main work computer, so don't experience regularly, I'll be relying on info from our provider, and our members who do experience it often, to confirm when they aren't seeing the issue any more.

OK, there was a fix that was to be in place week commencing 29th July; what happened to that please?

As mentioned above, there was an error in the Release Notes. 
I've just checked on this and currently the fix is expected in week of August 26th
