I’m the same with directions. At work we have a bank of toilets and if I go to one on the left hand side rather than the right it throws me out and I often end up going through a different entrance door and can’t find where I’m sitting 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)5

When you find it, do let me know as this so me!redofromstart said:What I really need is one that does 'you are here' 'the car is here', 'no, not that way idiot'. I have no sense of direction whatsoever, even for places I have been to many times. My favourite walk is a 4.5k circular around a local reservoir as even I can't get lost.3

It is some comfort to me that I am not the only one with a problem. I have a complete inability to translate map/app/guide to where I am and which way I need to go, which I think is to do with the inability to see pictures. I also remember getting very lost in the Derbyshire dales because we only had the mapping device and no signal. He always took a back up map and a compass after that! We have been to our new favourite local nature reserve at least 50 times this year, I know how to get there, and where to park but he never took the same route round because he had a sense of direction and a mental map. I will make myself go, but I suspect its a weeper anyway. It doesn't help that one of my hates is walking round looking at a phone wherever I go.
Anyway, today I picked up my new glasses. Varifocals, amazeballs. I went out to the garage for something and spotted that we had a stunning pair of missel thrushes in the apple tree half way up the garden. Wouldn't have even clocked them normally, never mind identified them. Feeding the birds is one of those daily pence per smile habit things now but always such a joy when I spot new things.
The multiple people multiple cottages have been booked and I now have three months to get a bit fitter before the memorial walk.
This morning was dentist in the city, a few minutes away from a big MrT so I nipped in to get the offer beef and finest gammon for the freezer. Not a lot of choice still, but plenty of small bits of beef which worked for me. Gammon cooking now, alongside some jacket potatoes. My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. Always a tragedy! DS loves this soup, and the cabbage and chorizo one. Not sure if you made my original chipotle version, or EH's with more coconut - both are very nice indeed. The gammon will be pea and ham at some point in the next few days. Very much soup weather.v1ckyt said:Just made your Chorizo and squash soup Re-do, it is delicious, but sadly I accidentally (not really) made it too spicy for the rest of the family, so I will have to eat it all, what a shame. My mortgage free diary: +++ Divide by Cucumber Error. So glad the varifocals are working well for you, how lovely to have been able to spot the missel thrushes in the apple treehttps://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase

Dog with bone here: early in my career when working in offices and regularly visiting new ones, I used to write down routes around the building. Reception to my desk; desk to loo; desk to departments I'd need to visit often. Plus the reverse of course which were totally different journeys. If landmarks were moved (water cooler, signs naming certain staff fire wardens; Employer Liability Insurance or the location of the accident book for instance), I'd have to start over. Sat nav has transformed my life. Love to all Humdinger xx4

I've gone down a bit of a rabbit hole on the navigation aids.
Apparently you can get turn by turn navigation on some smart watches, including on trails. Although the one they recommended was pricey.
And the Peak District publish 15 audio trail guides.5

When I first started this job, I'd take photos along the route from wherever I was sent back to an entrance. I'd forgotten all about it till you mentioned that, as I walked that area today without thinking and even explored a new (to me) underground passage to see where it led!Humdinger1 said:Dog with bone here: early in my career when working in offices and regularly visiting new ones, I used to write down routes around the building. My DS has a "walking satnav" so I drop him as near as the car satnav takes us & then he gets out & follows the walking one. I don't even have a phone that would do that. Although I do have a pad thing which I had to get because the new fitbit charge 6 (big mistake) doesn't work on a computer & that has been in recovery for weeks & needs uninstalling & reinstalling every couple of days. I wouldn't trust it to get me where I needed to go.

@redofromstart - have you tried g00gle maps on the walking setting? You can download your local map or any area you want, to use offline on your mobile phone. Then turn on the vocal instructions, via your bluetooth headphones, to be led round your chosen route by voice. I use it frequently in London so that I have my wits about me when in areas I don't know well and can avoid the pickpockets! I trialed it a few times on two routes I know well, to and from the office/train station and to/from the chinatown grocery store & bakery. Now I use it anytime I want to do some exploring.4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!!
