Thank you - I agree that bike 2 and his car need to go pronto and keep my car for now so at least that decision is made before the dvla bits get done. I think I will get tax and insurance refunds once sales or sorns are confirmed. Reminds me that H4stings (who could not have been more helpful) refunded the bike 3 insurance but B4nnets have not confirmed that bikes 1 and 2 are covered, or refunded if not. Must chase.
Today I have gathered all the financial information I need for probate etc before his accounts get locked. I did his 23/24 tax return and need to pay £100 tomorrow before I do the gov thing (tax on interest, seemed like a distant dream a few years ago!). The limited Co I am a director too but not on the bank account so that might be complicated, but I think I will do a voluntary wind up anyway, and pay the remaining 1k as dividend to me. Costs a lot to run and actually any work I find is likely to be IR35 or SE acceptable.
The two savings accounts both want probate to release to them so I am going to ask them to return the money to the funding account so hopefully in the dim and distant future when I do get probate I only need to deal with his main provider, who also do the business account. So tempting to just shift all of the money to his current account and not tell anyone but I suspect that has some legal issues, although it would be me as sole beneficiary complaining against me I guess? The key thing to know is that if I hadn't got all his log ons then I would have to request balances and interest amounts as part of the death notification which would have made doing the company and personal tax returns impossible.
Pension stuff completed for 3 of the 4, plus the LA claim, and an hour wasted trying to find bits of paper that we probably haven't kept. Found the pre boys Australia photos as an aside which made me cry but are perfect for the funeral hand out. Leaving pension 4 who are the most awkward till last because if everything else pays out I want to split that pot between the 4 boys and it will be tax free if I get them to pay all 4 direct, against the seven year rule if it comes to me and then I split.
The bereavement grant I can go into a job centre with the originals and get them to scan and send, and the local one is a few doors up from the funeral directors so I can do that when I meet the celebrant/drop off some clothes for Mr Redo to be buried in. That means my spare copy of our wedding certificate isn't tied up in gov depts for a week or two so worth a drive out.
So much paperwork. I have been wrestling with the laptop and scanner since I got up and my eyes and back are hurting now. I did defrost something for dinner which is in the instant pot now.
I did find some brand new walking boots of mine, had forgotten I bought spares as it was so rare for them to fit, so that is a bonus.

You are doing a great job.
It's always good to find something past you put aside for future you. Sadly the only things I've found recently were a tin of golden syrup and some mini aldi truffle eggs from Easter that I couldn't eat because of the gluten. Apparently I completely scarfed the ones I could...3 -
That is a busy, tough, productive day and how lovely to find the walking boots 🤩
Glad you have something easy in the slow cooker 😊

That sounds like a day that has been both productive and tough xxx Good decision on the car, I bet just making the decision sounds like a relief. Glad the bereavement grant paperwork will be easy at least. So impressed with you keeping track of it all xx3

Thanks
Yesterday was mostly spent pulling together photos for the memorial pack - like many people most photos are in a big box, some had to scan, others are on dusty dvds - and it took me a while to remember that his laptop has a cd player so that solved a problem. Lots of memories along the way. I will have a proper sort out over a few winter evenings, so that all four boys can have a proper photographic remembrance of him.
This morning I took my certificates to the job centre, text to confirm approved so the bereavement grant is on its way.
Pension 1 confirmed spouses pension, but I don't agree with their numbers so have gathered paperwork and queried but pleased they responded so quickly and without wanting original documents.
Food shopping done, yawn! Remembered to get a tin of shortbread so there is something to offer visitors.
Just having lunch quickly in between squashing everything possible into the big bins before they are collected in the morning.
Need to print some bits out for the celebrant meeting tomorrow and make some notes. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I hope the squashing things into the big bins is having a noticeable impact on the house and garden.3
