Thank you. I intend to just keep on chipping away at it for now but no skip until after the funeral.
I believe we are joint tenants, on purpose so that I inherit by default and the house does not form part of the estate for IHT or probate. No idea how to check that is what was actually done though.
Bike insurance 3 done, and as it happens same insurer was the house cover, my car (named driver) and our sons car (named driver) so they have sorted all of that for me as well. No charges and a refund for the balance of his bike insurance which will go some way towards the cost of getting it home. 30 days cover against theft as a period of grace. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I had to use a tape measure today. I did laugh as I carefully extracted one of many from the workshop, and carefully tip-toed in to put it back in the correct place. My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese

I hope you have had the correct training for that tape measure?!

Thanks EH - that was helpful. It is the original TR1 copy that I have found and is ticked for Joint tenants. I remember the conversation at the solicitors at the time but wanted to find something that confirmed that that was what was actually done.
No, sadly I have not been trained on the use of tape measures, and have been known to (1) use them incorrectly and (2) to injure myself on them, so I am not supposed to use one unsupervised. One of his many tape measures doesn't start at zero for some illogical reason, and you end up with the wrong size curtains.

Who on EARTH has a tape measure that doesn't start at zero?! (Oh, Mr Redo, yes, of course!) I can see how that would adversely affect curtain size as well!
Yes - your TR1 is a pretty good confirmation of how the property is held as that is of course where the land registry take the information from.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

You're doing so well. If you have the energy to, maybe list some of the coats on v*nted or eb*y for a little bit of cash to help with costs
Do double check the .gov section in their guide in case any of it is applicable to you

I am sure there was a good reason the tape measure doesn't start at zero, and he did explain but I had my la la headphones on. I am equally sure there will be multiple occasions in the next year or two that I regret those la la headphones as I try to finish the house off. As it is I have three pieces of beading that he had machined last week for the bathroom, and I can't remember for the life of me if they are to go round the window or on the floor once I have worked out how to fit the boxing in over the pipes. He was an absolute perfectionist when it came to making this house lovely for us. As part of the tidying I am making sure everything is cleaned and sealed so that none of his effort is wasted.
The natural burial places effectively have a monopoly on the local market and can dictate payment up front sadly. I could have asked his bank to pay for the funeral out of the estate but that means I need the death certificate and a further delay. I just shifted the money in my name round to cover it. I have enough money for at least six months even if nothing pays out.
PIP, thanks but anything means tested I am excluded from because of our savings which mean I can't claim anything despite the lack of income. I know how lucky we are to have those savings, and this is just a temporary problem. At least I hope it is. Selling stuff, once I know none of the family want things then I will start selling stuff. certainly not sending £200 down jackets to the hospice shop for them to be sold at £5. Oh, and while I remember, customer service heroes:
T3sco - car insurance
H4stings - bike, car, car, house
Wouldn't hesitate to use the above again. Ask for the bereavement team.
