I got 10 for my dad. Probably didn't need them all, but definitely didn't get them all back despite asking. Easiest to get them on the day as copies cost more. Keep an account of costs that go against the estate to reduce it's value. It all helps.4

Oh my - Redo, I am SO sorry. I had to re-read your post a number of times as it was so utterly shocking, even from this distance. I cannot even begin to fathom what it feels like for you, and how hard typing it up must have been. Sending much love and support to you and your family - anything we here can do, you just have to shout, you have been a supportive part of this little family on here for a long while, now we stand shoulder to shoulder for you to lean on as needed. xxx🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thanks - will get multiple copies. For employee death in service claims I generally waited until the electronic certificate was available before I submitted the claim to our insurers and then the claim went through in days for the family.
Solid day on the phone/websites sorting admin. How people do this and work at the same time is beyond me.
1. Motorcycle collection is booked and paid for. If you ever need to arrange this do check if they have the appropriate insurance and kit.
2. Contact made with 2 of his 3 vehicle insurers. Bikes added me as 'executor' to the policy and will confirm if I can let it run for a little while for insurance against theft. MrT (car) will let the policy run as I am a named driver. This is useful because it covers it for theft, and I could tax it if need be once the DVLA have been informed. The car is safely on the drive.
3. Pension 4 contacted and said some slightly worrying things about the trustees potentially deciding in favour of the boys, regardless of my input. This is despite me being the named beneficiary. It could just be a standard read out list though so I will worry once I know more.
4. Printed out the claim forms for pension 1 and found our marriage certificate. I know where my birth certificate is, but I need to find the council tax bill. These can then be scanned and used for other claims.
I am sure that I have done other admin things but I have head overload now.

Another one adding sorry for your loss.
One semi useful thing I may be able to help with, on your list. The house, check the documents (possibly TID - title information documentl), B Register, see if there is a restriction clause (form A/Sole prop). If not, you automatically inherit. You don't need to do anything.4 -
I think your point 3 is "standard blurb" - I recall hearing Martin Lewis saying that it is always the trustees that make the call, although in real terms they pretty much always go with the named beneficiary. I think it may be something to do with those tricky scenarios where an ex partner who should clearly have been removed hasn't, and it is patently obvious that they ought not still be the recipient...
On the death cert IIRC we got 4 copies of Dad's, and I then got further certified copies done which were then used for anyone who didn't demand an original (which turned out to be the majority) - those from a solicitor would cost in the region of £10 - £15 each generally, most firms will do a deal on multiple copies of the same document.

Thanks everyone, EH, I saw you had posted on your diary and hoped you wouldn't read mine at work. I think it safe to say it had been an emotional few days.
If anyone else needs some light relief go read about tape measures on Sun Addicts diary. Made me laugh a lot anyway.

So sad to hear your news @redofromstart. As ever, I'm lost in admiration for how you're handling everything. We are all here for you. Whether it's as a sounding board, practical tips or straightforward love, it's here. Humdinger xxx7

I think things like this really underline how much we on here feel we "know" one another - in spite of in most cases never having met, know that person's actual name, or what they look like. Regardless, we often know details about each other that sometimes our nearest and dearest don't - and that creates a special bond doesn't it. Seeing the community come together and the collective sense of shock around one of our number going through something as you are currently Redo - it can't fail to make us step back and not only think "that could be me" - as others have said, but also to be reminded once again of just how valuable this community is, too. It's what keeps us here, and what brings us back to it when other things in life take over for a bit, isn't it.
The tape measure conversation made me laugh too - and reminded me of how carefully guarded our two are - woe betide the one who fails to replace it back in "the drawer" after use!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Thank you all. Completely agree EH - it is why I made the decision to carry on posting and to post about what was happening.
Definitely wobbling this morning, waving not drowning though. Rather than make more distressing calls I have been focussing on having a tidy up as we have visitors are due later. Yes I know they wouldn't mind the mess but I mind them seeing it and it gives me something to focus on other than drinking endless cups of tea.
12 of his coats removed from the cloakroom (he did like his coats) which looks much better for it. Pockets checked and then I will hang them up upstairs for now. The ripped cheap down jacket that he did painting etc in has been relocated to the greenhouse for the cats to sleep on. Footwear out of the downstairs boot cupboard next. Yes he was a bit of a collector of those as well. Tbh he was a bit of a collector of everything.
The police returned his motorcycle helmet, and it is damaged from when he collapsed so no use to anyone else. Need to check about how they are recycled as it had bluetooth etc. ETA - chin straps are cut so it is a dispose of job.My mortgage free diary: https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6498069/whoops-here-comes-the-cheese
