I've been reading through your diary, and just wanted to send my very belated condolences about Mr Redo.
I'm glad you've had a nice break away."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5 -
Glad it was a restful break and you felt you could stop for a moment
hopefully the productivity feeling will stayDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!5 -
Thanks @jwil, appreciated.
it'll be six months on 12th Feb - much of it a blur as others have said it would be and insomnia is still an issue. I am glad I kept detailed notes for the important things and that my head worked for the dubious pension calculations etc.
Regular readers may recall that I have mentioned that I have no sense of direction, and one of the things I have found hardest has been not walking beyond the village edge because I get lost so poor Doglet stays on lead. I needed an App that says 'you are here, you need to face this way. No, not that way.' Dear reader, I think I have found it. Mr Redo had a paid subscription to the OS maps app, which I have transferred to my phone. I can download the area map before I leave so not stressing about signal, and it is fairly clever about where I am and which way I should be facing. None of that 'take a right turn, not that right turn, the next right turn' nonsense of the sat nag. Last week I stuck to simple shore line routes but yesterday Doglet and I braved a route through the fields, and the forest (I remember when that forest was knee high and we laughed at it when we first moved here) to the burial ground and back without ever feeling stressed or lost. 15k soggy steps again, mucky boots and sore legs all round, and much happy dancing by madam.
I also ordered eight raised beds for the veg plot (using a 15% off T&M code on TCB), fetched some bags of compost (some of lots), and realised that the bags on the patio are mostly sharp sand and gravel which can be integrated into my plan rather than rehomed via freecycle. I will need more filler for the beds, and bark for the paths.

That app sounds just what you need! I'm one of those who can mostly follow a map but even so they can be mis-read (not everything is mapped, like side roads that are visible to me but not shown because they are too small for the map to bother with) - so something that has a good idea where you actually are should be a real help. Also, the more you try, the better you will get.
Thanks for the mention of the raised beds. I need to look into those.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)
