Milann’s mutterings through retirement

Well done on the raffle win, what a lovely prize. At least you know why you put on the 1lb and can move on. I hope the brace works 🤞I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

I arrived at the hospital which I know very well ten minutes early….but the orthotic dept had been recolated. I was told it had been relocated and was dropped where they said it was, but could I find it. They’re knocking an old part of the hospital down and it is literally a building site 😳 it was in a little porta-cabin tucked behind a load of builders wagons. I had to go in a different dept and ask where it was 😳 I was 5 minutes late. I hate being late for things. Anyway after a lot of oooohiing and ahhhing and much tugging and positioning of my foot. The orthotic man decided he doesn’t think a brace will help as my ankle is too far gone as has the arch in that foot and the brace won’t hold it. He is going to try a lace up one which he’s had to ordered. He said he can mould me a plastic one if I really want but the pressure and the way my foot wants to go naturally will cause skin problems and pain 😱 Then he had a rant about the orthopaedic surgeons who think these things should be simple but they only think ‘bones’ and forget there is a real person with skin that can blister and is sore. He was quite comical taking them off. I said ‘No thanks’ to the plastic moulded one - no point if he doesn’t hold out much hope for it. The laced one should be here in a couple of weeks and he has suggested I get onto the other department where I get my shoe inserts and request more built up ones. Watch this space. It was quite sobering- if they can’t operate and a brace won’t work, I don’t think I want to think about the future. I’ll do the best I can to keep as mobile as possible as long as I can. He was explaining the pressure an ankle joint takes as the whole body weight goes through it with every step. When I suggested my weight won’t be helping as I need to shed a stone- he looked surprised and said I wasn’t overweight 😄😄😄 I liked him for that - but I know a stone still has to go.£4 was spent on bus fare home. It’s not far but 2 buses and I’ve walked many time s in the past but there was no way today. I got dropped off as parking is awful there.Right now I’ve bored everyone with my muttering - I’m off to get my dinner of tuna, pasta and salad 😇January spends - £587.583

Not boring at all milann. I hope they think of alternatives if the lace up one isn’t helpful. I guess medical science moves forwards all the time, so possibly there will be a surgery option in the future? Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

I hope so WW….there is surgery they could do now but they reckon my bit of bone won’t take the screws as they fuse it. I’m wondering if an ankle replacement might be an option. I know they do them but I don’t know if the replacement is just the higher bit of the ankle joint or if it includes the joint that I’m having agro with. I never knew there were different parts of the ankle joint until last year…..who knew 😂😂 Think I’ll do some research so I can be armed with questions at my next appointment.January spends - £587.581

If they can fix knees and hips then you would really think ankles are possible…even tricky ankles! 😁Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Eek. That is a wee bit sobering. I have never heard of ankle replacements & I thought I was fairly up on orthopaedics. I find orthotics tend to know their stuff. Funnily enough my orthotics bod has same name as my DS so at least I can remember it!I am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. Not much happening here. £25 left my purse yesterday as I did a bit of shopping and went for lunch with a couple of friends. We’d planned a walk but it was raining and I was pleased as I’m still having trouble with my ankle. It’s really flared up.Not sure what’s happening this weekend. We want to bring the bedding in from Millie for a wash and airing before we head away for 5 days to North Yorkshire. I hope the sun shines as it is this morning. It’s cold but beautifully bright. I need to do a bit of shopping too.
I’m not planning on much housework this weekend- it isn’t bad so I’ll leave it until Tuesday and Wednesday so everywhere is ready for Thursday. I’m going to sit with friend’s elderly relative whilst they visit the doctor on Monday. So that’s my week.I’m looking forward to our trip.
Foodwise I’ve been really good. I’m trying a new mind game. I’m taking a photo of everything I eat….( or the wrappers if I’ve scoffed it quickly) - whether it on plan or not. Then making a daily collage and sending it to my wats up account and writing the daily syn value. I’ve found it’s really making me focus. If I don’t want to photograph it I don’t need to eat it. 👍😁. It might not last long but whilst it’s working I’m rolling with it 👍👍January spends - £587.582
