In other more MSE news, yesterday nothing was crossed off the immediate "to do" list - but - the garden furniture was taken to be powder coated (finally). I am so excited by this. A small table and chairs my parents gave me many years ago is to be returned to its original white, my free table and armchairs are to be stripped and painted grey, the large oval table and 5 chairs found for a pittance at a village safari are to be pink. And yes, really pink! I paid so little for this set I'm having fun with them and the old bench that broke has had the wood skipped and the ends will be purple (A place that builds wooden frames down the road is cutting the wood to replace the rotten wood). Think Cadburys Purple.
I've painted a Marketplace cheap metal bench myself and once I collect all this lot I will have furniture throughout the place that is all mine and nicely restored within budget.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!10 -
Watty - Stinky emptied kongs at an alarming rate (he also chews any stick that crosses his path), so I started freezing them. He still has some puppy ones that don't last long, but the black ones (for aggressive chewers) take him ages.
I block the hole at the bottom with a blob of peanut butter from the outside, then fill with mashed cooked BNS/sweet potato/courgette, yogurt, or maybe a bit of chicken/chicken liver mixture (if I've been making cat food), and have discovered that a chuck of banana is the best option for plugging the top! I keep lots of kongs in various sizes, and lots of lick mats (use the same filling, but also mashed kiwi) in the freezer, along with frozen carrots (don't keep him busy for long but he loves them), and bones (we're going to have to give these up as vets don't recommend them, but at WattyDog's stage of life, and with good teeth, the risk might be worth the enjoyment).
All these frozen things keep him busy and happy while I'm working, although unfortunately he's come to expect them after meals, so I need to change our routine (I've got to cut him down from 3 meals to two at some point anyway).7 -
Re your kitchen floor, I bought a runner from the turtle dirt trapper people that sits along the floor under the sink stretch of counters - it's washable. Then I got a matching one for the front door lobby. Our issue is a brick floor, rather than a sliding dog, but as a solution it might work for you tooSave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)

@Suffolk_lass wonderful idea. Just purchased. I have two of their mats by the doors and they work well and are indeed washable. Just ordered a runner for the kitchen to go between the units and the fridge and where WattyDog's food lives. Great solution and better than my idea which was to ask the charity shop to call me if anyone donated rugs.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

snuffle mat? Lickey pad? Might just keep him occupied a moment or two longer.
My dog was too stupid to work out a kong. He just looked mystified at it like he could smell food but no idea where it was. 😆 🤣 😂 he was such a spoiled dopey prince 😆 🤣
Edited: hadn't realised there was another page of posts to read. Delighted you have more mats. The very very kindest gift you can give any dog. Sadly the hard wooden flooring so beloved of many dog owners does their muscles no good at all22: 3🏅 4⭐ 23: 5🏅 6 ⭐ 24 1🏅 2⭐ 25 🏅 🥈⭐ Never save something for a special occasion. I had to get rugs for FLD here when we moved as it was all hard floors and he was having trouble by that point scooting around quick enough - I bought washable runners and threw them down where he usually walked they were great.

I've painted a Marketplace cheap metal bench myself and once I collect all this lot I will have furniture throughout the place that is all mine and nicely restored within budget. We have a round table and four garden chairs where the coating is beginning to peel. At the moment they are black, but it would be nice to get them redone to match our window frames, which are a purple/pink colour, so I thoroughly approve of your choice of pink and purple. When we had the extension done I think the builders and the window company were somewhat sceptical of our request for purple window frames, but most people agree that they contrast well with the grey boarding on our very modern extension. The inner frames are more of a lilac/grey colour. We also got 4 funky cafe chairs for the garden in orange, blue, yellow and bright green with contrasting tables. Why be boring?
