Watty's Awakening

Cherryfudge said:A friend introduced me to the idea of 'a thriller, a filler and a spiller' when planting containers - depending on the size of the containers, how about Italian Cyprus or an acer for the 'thriller' and to give height? Then some colourful annuals for the 'filler' and something like variegated ivy or Creeping Jenny for the 'spiller'?
The trees might of course be too big, so I hope someone more awake than me can come up with alternatives.
Been reading a lot about acers recently, somehow ended up joining a facebook group for people who grow them in pots. They are best on their own, too much watering, too little watering and you're likely to lose them. Too much sun/too little sun depending on which variety, and you'll lose them. They don't like windy places either. Could be too fiddly trying to get the watering right with the other plants in the pot.Make £2025 in 2025

@Slinky the acer is a no go here then. I can't do that much fuss. Thanks for the suggestions re the pots. I will carry on thinking that over. There is a fair bit of work to get to the point of decorating with pots
Today I passed two jobs to PA for when she comes back to work next week. I've more to give her but I have learnt if I give her a lot of different bits they get started and not finished so two projects and then I'll track those and I've earmarked a couple more when those are done.
My jobs - I have cleared the CPD off my list so that is done, I had enough hours for the year (and it is only July) so all good and I removed the chicken wire from the back gate. It had started to come away and I'm tired of catching my hand on it when unlocking. I cannot even remember why PPH had it there but it is gone.
Then I started thinning the apples until the tool I was using hurt my hand. I probably need a decent pair of scissors for this job. The small orchard has every disease know to apples: brown rot, caterpillar damage, cracking of the skin (maybe frost or rain damage); codling moth, scab and sawfly. I didn't finish the job. I found it too sad, usually WattyDog is out there with me driving me mad by insisting I play with a stone or a stick or as a last resort his ball. To be there without him was just too miserable so I came in. I need to think about how to sort the orchard out. Clearly without WattyDog hindering me it is going to be too miserable to do this job this year. (One week of steroids and we have a small improvement).

Your posts about WattyDog have made me a lot more appreciative of Stinky, and I'm trying to refrain from telling him to get lost quite so often when he's pestering me. Although I still need to work on making sure he's not a pest when there are other people around!4

That’s the thing @greenbee one moment they are driving you mad and you wish they would go away and the next sitting by the trees in tears because he isn’t allowed outside ani I’m wondering how long we have left.It was PPH I hated not WattyDog but my goodness it was a struggle at the start. Still we are here now and without a doubt I love my daft dogMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

he was a tough dog at the start for you to deal with (on top of everything else) but so much of that was pph fault.
We love following his dopey adventures on here too, gentle cuddles for him

Day 8 of steroids and WattyDog found his voice again. He woke me barking at someone visiting next door at 6.30 am (how very dare they) and had to be rugby tackled to stop him exiting the back door as he is not allowed in garden due to steps.
Naturally i am delighted by his return to bad behaviour. The old lady who gives him treats over the back gate called in after her holiday to see how he was, and finding he was still with us (she was worried about us having to let him go as he was so bad) went home to get him snacks of ham and turkey. His delight at seeing one of his favourite people made me cry.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In financial news I have opened a new cash ISA for this year at 4.98% and now need to start transferring money in from last years ISA (not a lot as last year I only put "free money" in, i.e. money I came by as a result of sales, surveys and a bonus payment for a job I did for someone so £601.11 from last year and £300 from this year).
I might start need a better strategy for saving but, I am actually saving something as well as still doing stuff on the house so this is working well.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
