if we use some happy hours this Sunday we want to charge the EV - which is fine as the EV charging is ‘blind’ to our solar battery.
Yes, that'll work. If you're on IOG you'll need to use the "boost charge" function to force a charge during the Happy Hour; you'll be refunded at your peak rate.
If the sun is shining during the happy hours (the last lot were pretty early so this is very possible) we want to be charging the battery from the grid instead of our solar panels.
I'm sure you realise that if the sun is shining, you'll still be charging from solar; only the excess that your solar can't provide will come from the grid.
Maybe we could charge solar battery as normal in the night then force discharge of the battery just before the happy hours.
You'll need to have sufficient space in your battery to accept the grid charge. Maybe don't charge from grid at all the night before? Would you still have enough in your battery, carried forward from the day before, to get you through to the Happy Hour?

thanks @NedS & @QrizB - some good points raised there. Especially about the IOG bump charge as we do have our OHME set to prioritise cost

meant to add our battery will likely be empty and charging if we don’t charge it at all overnight. So maybe we can try just charging it but less overnight to get us through
