Shrove Tuesday: what are you having on your pancakes?

  • Funny how I don't like pancakes but I would not say no to a Yorkshire pudding!
No man is worth crawling on this earth.

So much to read, so little time.
  • Pancakes will be the ‘main meal’ here. Crepe style, with traditional lemon and sugar on some, and then banana, blueberries and maple syrup on others.

What's on your pancake menu for Shrove Tuesday 2025?

My wife - who is from Belgium - is very particular about pancakes and won't let me make them, as my efforts are not up to her standards.

I had some last week with banana and (knockoff) Nutella. If you put the whole jar in a soup mug (or other slightly larger container) and fill that with hot water around the jar, the Nutella melts to make it easy to drizzle!

I'll probably forget to have pancakes on actual pancake day but have them fifteen or twenty times throughout the year - the traditional way for our house!

It's every year! March 4th this year. It changes date as its always the day before lent, which is tied to Easter that moves about too. I was taught it was traditional to eat pancakes to use up flour, eggs, milk and sugar that'd often be used to make things that were given up during lent.

I did have my pancakes late, as predicted. Fluffy American ones with peaches. I like to mostly drain a can of peaches and blend them into a thick sauce. The 100ml or so of leftover juice gets put in the batter (with the equivalent milk omitted) for slightly sweet and peachy pancakes. It's one of my favourite low-effort always in the cupboard toppings these days!
