I agree with Floss just lemon juice and sugar and proper thin pancakes not the American thick ones

Two course pancake meal on Shrove Tuesday with no exceptions :D

We do a few savoury to begin with - cheese, fake ham that kind of thing. Then we move to lemon and sugar or maple syrup. Always crepe style on Shrove Tuesday but I actually prefer American/Scotch pancakes normally.
Same here - pancake day meal is also a savoury followed by a sweet.

Brie and bacon is always good, but garlic cheese and mushroom is nice, and using them to make a cannelloni style dish with either meatballs or chicken  :p:smile:

Sweet for me tends to be banana and chocolate, sometimes with a few dark cherries (black forest style).

We have pancakes pretty regularly as a cheap lunch. I like crepes with savoury fillings, often spinach cooked with garlic and soft cheese. OH likes sugar and lemon or golden syrup with cinnamon. If I'm doing fluffy American pancakes it's always with a compote made with frozen fruit.

    Trad lemon & sugar
I have never enjoyed these, hence never understood the popularity of this combo on thin pancakes.

Lemon curd on thick fluffy pancakes I 100% get!

For me it's hard to beat traditional lemon juice and sugar.  But other favourites in our house are:
Nutella and banana.  Well, actually it's the Lidl or Aldi own-brand version of Nutella.  Spread the chocolate spread on the pancake, peel the banana and lay it on the pancake whole, roll it all up.
    Plain old strawberry jam.
And one that sounds a bit odd but is really nice.  Spread some butter on the pancake then sprinkle it with ground cinnamon (pancake needs to be warm so the butter melts).  Can't remember where I first came across that, I think it was a pancake stall at some country fair or something, but it's yummy - and not too sickly-sweet.

I don't like pancakes and never have, even as a child.

orange or lemon with sugar and a few raisins thrown in the batter in the pan.
I may try some savoury ones this year too.

It will depend on how I am feeling. Sometimes I just want lemon and sugar on thin pancakes.
    Other combinations:
    Nutella, banana and vanilla ice-cream
    Chantilly cream
    fruit (strawberries, blueberries) and ice-cream.

    Thick pancakes:
    maple syrup and butter

    DH: lemon and sugar only.

I used to hold a pancake party every year and invite lots of elderly single people. I spent a couple of hours cooking pancakes.

For me, it'll be raspberries, mascarpone & maple syrup. DD1 will have Nutella & cream, DD2 will dust hers with brown sugar, cinnamon & cream, and OH will go for the traditional lemon & sugar if he doesn't go sideways and have raspberry & crab apple jam. No idea what DD1's BF will go for but there's no lack of choices!

ETA: the raspberries may be adulterated with redcurrants; there are loads in the freezer & they go together rather well!

  • We like to go for three courses!

Starter:  Chinese pancakes with crispy duck, hoisin, cucumber and spring onion
Main:  French buckwheat galettes with some combination of ham/cheese/smoked salmon/mushrooms
Dessert:  Traditional crepes with anything and everything (I'm very partial to ice cream and maple syrup)
