SIL should definitely pay for the stair lift if it’s important to her. They don’t grow on trees!

The thing that worries me about the stair lift is it would be yet another nail in the coffin for his mobility. He can manage the stairs with the two rails and taking his time. The same thing happened when he got the scooter his mobility went downhill. I don’t want him to be completely immobile. Incidentally he has only ever fallen once on the stairs since he became disabled, I rest my case 😐I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)9

Poor Mr SA still seems confused, but that could be from being out of his usual time and place. I expect he'll soon be back to 'UK time' soon.
He doesn't need a stairlift if he's used to doing stairs and assessed as safe to continue, and of course having one that he doesn't need won't help him maintain his skills and strength.

I agree with you about the stairlift. I thought of getting one before I had my hip replacement. Then I realised that I knew I would still use it once the hip was sorted then I would never be climbing stairs again. If he never falls on the stairs then I would suspect that any falls he does have are a form of lack of attention. I mean the one place those of us who have ever had lower limb problems worry about is the stairs. Of course if you had a stairlift you would be able to use it next time he breaks one of your lower limbs. (sorry couldn't resist)

I think you are right about the stair lift. Its like people who move into bungalows before they really need to, they just lose such a lot of mobility. We have a downstairs loo but I hardly ever use it unless I am desperate, as I like the exercise of going upstairs. Also its good heart exercise.

TBH I think a stair lift could be more a liability than a help. I can't imagine MrSA strapping himself in it every time he used it, and the consequences of that could be dire!Hope you manage to get him settled and have a restful night.Hopefully DD will improve quickly. Take care (((hugs))) XI Believe.....

We decided against a stair lift for my mum. She is not good with things that have controls and has poor balance and vision. Using the thing seemed more dangerous than not.2

You know Mr SA better than anyone and what is suitable for him. I agree that it would be nice if SIL would put some of her energy into spending some time with Mr SA to give you some respite."If you can dream it, you can do it". Walt Disney2

Thank you all for your thoughts. The physio wants to work on improving his mobility and building up his strength so a stair lift would be a bad idea.
When I got up this morning I noticed DD's shoes and keys in the hall so another wounded soldier returned to barracks. Goodness knows what time she got back, even the dog didn't hear her!
Raining this morning but still mild. Hopefully will manage to get the dog on the park today now Mr SA is back with his scooter.
Mr M delivery arrived this morning so that has been put away. I really need to make an effort to run down the small freezer as it's desperate for defrosting. I don't know where all the stuff comes from I'm sure it's breeding! I wish I'd got a small chest freezer now as the drawers in this freezer are quite small.
Today's exercise plan is to aim for a minimum of 15,000 steps, a lunchtime bums & tums class and resistance bands tonight.
I need to sort out a meal plan to use up freezer stocks now things are settling down again.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)9 -
