Thank you and hello @EssexHebridean. Unfortunately the lining is built in to the curtains, it’s a really thick blackout lining and that’s what makes them so heavy. They’re still up at the moment 🤞
DIL’s appointment went well, the neurologist has seen a lot of similar cases and he’s convinced that losing 5% of her body weight will vastly help with the condition. He said other patients have completely got rid of it by doing so. So she’s signed up to SW. She has to have a scan just to be certain it’s not anything sinister but he’s convinced she’ll be fine it’s just a precaution. So that’s sounding a lot more positive anyway.Don’t ask about my bodge jobs after work. Talk about more haste less speed. I had a huge 3 wick candle at Christmas that burned down the middle and nothing else. I thought it seemed a shame to throw it away and thought I could break it up with a hammer and use it in my wax burner - eh no, far too thick. So I decided to melt it in the microwave - what could possibly go wrong 😬 The upshot is yes the candle has now been chopped into suitably sized pieces, one of which is currently smelling very nice in my burner. However it’s taken me ages to clean the melted wax off the microwave, the plate I put it on, the worktop and basically anything it came into contact with within a 3 mile radius. Then I decided to descale the coffee maker and accidentally knocked over the water pot all over the kettle which then tripped the electrics. Thankfully easily solved by unplugging the kettle and flipping the kitchen fuse switch back on but still a pain.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)6 -
What fabulous news for your DIL. That must be such a relief.
I have also fallen foul of candles like that. It takes ages to scrape wax off things.
My curtain pain is that we saved money by buying an extendable rail for the bedroom instead of made to measure. Of course the curtains get stuck on the join every single time and you have to do a gentle push upwards to get them over…but if you push infinitesimally too much the curtains come unhooked…then I have to get the buffet and climb up to hook them, or find MrWW (who then has a rant about the curtain pole) 🤣 These things are sent to try us!Not all who wander are lost - J.R.R.Tolkien

Great news for your DiL and all of you. Wishing her speedy success with the diet!
I sympathise about the candle: I once had one on top of my Mum's convection oven which I forgot to remove when cooking and the wax ruined the oven. Not my greatest moment!I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Pleased to hear your DIL received some positive news.
Oh dear to the candle disaster!2 -
If your curtains are coming down you undoubtedly need longer screws holding the pole in. This usually means a wooden batten as others have said. We nearly always need one up as the window lintels often mean the screws can't go far enough into the wall.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards.
