No bill yet but was about to set up DD  - (what is the cut off date for this to avoid increased charge for  paying or can we wait for a bill?)
Was about to set up DD it showed the 2 main options eg fixed month amount or variable pay on actual bill
but  when I started the process it only offered me fixed DD.
Can I set it up online and then change it  or  set up variable from start via which contact method?

And you need to set up a DD before 31 January to get the lower DD tariff

if you go on Chat after setting up the Fixed DD online and ask to be changed to the variable one you can also ask them to generate a bill at the same time

Ok thanks for the replies. I have set up the initial DD .
The chat option looks like an automated bot. Presumably it eventually connects to a human?

Eventually, yes, but you have to get past the robot first.

Just type 'Speak to human, please' until it agrees to get you an agent.  Can be useful to have some boilerplate prepared so that you can copy and paste.  Can be very slow.  Don't rely on EDF always sending a transcript, sometimes the Chat session can disappear without warning.  Take screenshots or photos as a precaution if you need to refer to it in the future.

If you're on a PC there's a menu in the top-right of the chat window that lets you print a transcript. (I've not tried it on a mobile.)

Getting a transcript works reasonably well on BG (especially as there are audible prompts when there's a response), but EDF is a bit iffy on Chat, as it is with everything else.  Sometimes it seems the agent closes the chat first and then it's too late, everything has suddenly vanished and you can't get it back.
I take photos and delete them if/when the transcript arrives.
  • My recent experience with EDF has been painful. Three weeks ago they advised that they couldn’t get a smart meter reading from my gas meter. Given that other DCC Users can still pull 30 minute data via the WAN ( the connection to The DCC Network), the fault clearly sits within EDF’s system. My transfer out to a new supplier goes through at midnight tonight. EDF has just asked me for a reading so it can raise a Final Bill. I have gently pointed out that any closing reading has to come from the new supplier’s data collector. I assume that this is EDF’s way of getting around the possibility of a 6 week ‘fine’: the Final Bill was issued but we now have to amend it in light of changed industry readings.
  • Edf generated a bill today on the higher tariff despite setting up a direct debit and with the wrong initial reading. Thankfully managed to get the bill put on hold u til both issues are sorted out, just knew this would happen!

    They really are wallies.  httpimagesdigitalspycoukforumsmiliesrolleyesgif
On the app, there's no request for a meter reading (the last one was requested on 11 Jan) but the website shows this.
Righto, I'll just jump in my time machine and go back to yesterday, then I'll whizz off to three and a half weeks in the future.  Hope I'll be able to remember the lottery & footie results and the Bitcoin price when I get back, then I won't care two hoots how much gas I've used !
  • Has anyone moved from EDF yet since being SOLRd? Im looking at moving gas to BG as that’s where my electricity is now with, but thinking I should wait until the money has transferred from zog before jumping…
