Zog Energy Ltd is ceasing to trade. Ofgem, the energy regulator, is appointing a new supplier for its customers.

Customers need not worry, their supplies are secure and funds that domestic customers have paid into their accounts will be protected if they are in credit. More information can be found here.

Ofgem’s advice is not to switch, but to wait until they appoint a new supplier for you. This will help make sure that the process of handing customers over to a new supplier, and honouring domestic customers’ credit balances, is as hassle free as possible for customers.

Support and advice is available on the Ofgem website for both domestic customers and non-domestic customers. Alternatively, if customers need additional support in England and Wales, they can call Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 or email them via their webform. In Scotland, they can contact Advice Direct Scotland on 0808 196 8660 or email them via their webform. Advice will also be shared on Ofgem’s twitter @ofgem and facebook channels.

The increase in my electricity has been tough on me, since Symbio went.  A gas increase, sooner than expected, is really going to hurt.

One of the things I've been kicking myself for since prices started rising so sharply a few months ago was that I'd only gone for a one year fix with Zog when for slightly more I could have fixed for two years. Well, at least I can console myself that the one year fix was the right decision after all, and it only had two months left to run.

However this is sad news for both customers and the staff and directors who I'm sure behaved responsibly but have just been caught up in a situation they couldn't navigate through. I suspect there might be several more failures before this year is over.

I am actually sorry about this. They appeared to be a sensibly run company & have been taken down as a knock-on result of somebody else's failure.

You're joking! I thought I was fixed until March. Excrement!

I did wonder why Zog hadn't asked for a month end reading, as they are usually so punctual. What an absolute shambles. I don't blame Zog, as they seemed to be one of the good guys. I do blame the Government and Ofgem. OK, to a certain extent these circumstances were unforeseen but, as in other areas of central management, there seems to have been a distinct lack of planning and disaster modelling by the powers that be. Perhaps they shouldn't 'be'.

Too busy fannying about with virtue signalling climate conferences?
  • Meanwhile, can someone answer an 'idiots' question? Why is electricity generation so dependent on gas, especially if gas is supposedly being phased out?

So, I will shortly have 3 SoLRs running concurrently. Just born lucky, I guess. It's ok, I've nothing else to do, or worry about.

...and (possibly) aiding the spread of omichron ?
Terrible news about Zog - I was hoping that no news was good news ,at least for another month or two . Actually submitted month end reading yesterday and calculated that my credit would last ( with a couple of DDs) til the end of Feb. when my fix ended. RIP Zog !!

I do not know how the Government can sleep at night. It's do nothing approach to this crisis has resulted in some well run suppliers going under. It really hurts when a wholesaler gets it wrong and takes good suppliers with it. Yes, it has protected consumer prices for this Winter but at what long-term cost?  Fingers crossed that Octopus steps up to the plate.
