Zog has gone 😢

This would be an unusual one for Octopus as they are more interested in reducing the number of gas customers they have and helping customers to remove gas supplies where possible.[Deleted User] said:Fingers crossed that Octopus steps up to the plate.

Fully aware of that - but it's annoying because I try to minimise my balance with these small suppliers and because of the time of year the DD will push it above £100 credit which will ,going on current reports ,not reappear for several months by which time the SOLR will ,no doubt, be helping themselves to my bank balance !!spot1034 said:
It would have been requested through the banking system several days ago, and you will not lose anything as credit will be transferred to the new supplier.brewerdave said:@Deleted_User - Just checked online banking - Zog collected their DD today !!0 -
How can any company with 11,700 customers be viable ?
If say they have a mark up on my £500 a year - that only gives a margin of about £500k - out of which comes, staff, tax etc.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1 -
Surprised me too; thought they had 50,000+ customers.Robin9 said:How can any company with 11,700 customers be viable ?

Zog has traded for over 7 years; it never got greedy; it had excellent customer service and reasonable prices. Sadly, its demise can be attributed to collateral damage. It is a bit like insuring your car only to find a day after your accident that your insurer has gone out of business. Reports suggest that Zog did all the right things and future supplies were properly hedged.Admiral_Barbarossa said:Farewell Upstart?6 -
Must admit I hadn't heard of Zog until I chose to switch earlier this year. Founded in 2012, they certainly had a low profile, only gaining 11k customers in nearly 10 years was either sensible (seems they had very good reviews) or showed a certain lack of ambition.Robin9 said:How can any company with 11,700 customers be viable ?

No, because they're an estimate, which is pretty self explanatory.superbigal said:
So is allowing estimates to be billed which are higher than the actual reading fraud ?[Deleted User] said:
This comes up time after time. Firstly, it is fraud; secondly, all meter readings are industry-validated and, thirdly, how much do people think that they would save? The saving is just the difference between the two unit prices per kWh.superbigal said:Should you be inflating your meter reading a little ? to benefit from the current zog rates.
If you're specifically asked for an actual meter reading and you make one up with the intention of creating a financial advantage for yourself, that's textbook fraud.1 -
Real shame to see Zog go, been with them for a few years now and always been fine, no problems at all, bills on time, i re-signed up to a 2 year fix early part of this year as I usually always sign up to 2 year fixed deals. Was always happy to support Zog, hence renewed every 2 years as always found them easy to deal with etc. Been worried whether Zog would survive current climate, such a shame, very good company and I believe only a handful of employees? I knew they had less than 20k customers but I always thought that was like maybe 18k or there about's and this aided them keeping the costs low.
Never been with a supplier that's gone bust so will be interesting to see what happens.
I too saw my DD go out today to Zog so I presume I *may* still get my bill in few days time.
Let's hope we got someone who's prices are reasonable in current climate and not the highest available
I did take some of my credit out last year I think as it had started to build up but it's slowly been building up again so fingers crossed I'll get that back/transferred to new supplier.

I think a village somewhere is missing a snarky idiot, as evidenced on your other self congratulatory thread. (Has switching been worth it?)Admiral_Barbarossa said:Farewell Upstart?2
