    Hi all,

Just checked my EDF account and it too says contract started 02/12/2021 and has moved to the Meter Reading stage.  However, no request for a meter reading so far and no final bill from Zog yet.

    Thanks

    Kev

Also got an email from EDF. Says we are put on Welcome Standard tariff. Can't see actually what the costs are though.
Yeah i got the same email,,

just got the below from their website, i saved a news article, about some providers sticking you on a fixed tariff even thou the variable one is cheaper due to it being capped, and EDF was mentioned, not sure what there variable prices are,

    Supplier

EDF Energy (EDF Energy Customers Ltd)

Start typing your tariff name (needed)

    Welcome Standard

    Tariff type

    Variable

    Payment method

    Budget Direct Debit (Monthly)

    Unit rate

    4.169p per kWh

    Standing charge

    26.12p per day

    Tariff ends on

    No end date

    Price guaranteed until

    No end date

Exit fees (if you cancel this tariff before the end date)

    Not applicable

    Discounts and additional charges

    Not Applicable

I just noticed the above is the variable tariff despite selecting Fixed!, whatever i try to select on their website it comes up with the above tariff ! hmmmm

I have also received the email and a letter from EDF and the notification that I am being placed on the Welcome Standard Variable Price Tariff. My rates are different from you:

    Mine is quoted to be:

    Unit Rate 4.397 kWh
    Standing Charge 30.78p per day

Any idea why there are different prices for the same tariff?
got my letter yesterday, and my unit charge is 4.391 kWh but standing charge is the same as yours,. lets hope as "Keep_pedalling" states the price comes down a bit with DD.

Expect your deemed tariff to fall to 26.12p/day and 4.169p/kWh with DD, assuming you're in the Southern region.
  • Where a household has a gas supplier and a different electricity supplier, how does the responsibility for smart meters fallout?

I now use EDF (ex-Zog) and Octopus. My Secure Liberty meters appear not to have been adopted.

Cancelled my Zog DD yesterday, not had any email from Zog so far.

  • kev2009 said not had any email from Zog so far.

No, that is disappointing. All I have had is an auto-generated email when I cancelled my direct debit, threatening me with a £30 charge. Nice touch.
  • @Sterlingtimes I have never had a smart meter, and do not particularly want one, but you raise an interesting point. What are the practical problems and legal considerations when there is a switch of supplier, enforced or otherwise?

Is a smart meter reading always deemed to be correct and indisputable? What if the new supplier refuses to adopt or accept an existing smart meter - is it entitled to insist on a swap to its own approved model, especially if it cannot get it to work or 'wake up'? What is the procedure if you think your smart meter is defective, and not reading or transmitting properly?

Also, what if a meter is defective and requires examination and repair - who does the supplier delegate the work to, if their operation is geographically distant eg Plymouth to Newcastle? The appropriate DNO?

The electricity meter and comms hub are the electricity supplier's responsiblity, the gas meter the gas supplier's. If you have separate suppliers but dumb meters you have to get the electric one done first, then the gas.
The Secure Liberty is adoptable, and Octopus can read them. Other ex-Avro forumites have reported theirs becoming smart again after switching to Octopus. I would expect yours to get adopted before too long (and if you're in a hurry you could try an email to Octopus).

A smart meter reading, reported to the DCC, is as reliable as one read in person by a meter reader (there are a couple of known quirks but these are, after all, known). If there's reason to think it's wrong, it can be dispited in the usual ways.
If a meter is connected to the DCC the supplier can use it, it it isn't then it needs to be read manually. Suppliers can swap meters if there's a need to, smart or otherwise.
Meter installers work nationally and every supplier has access to them; whether you're with BG or Back Bedroom Energy Co, the person who comes out to replace/examine your meter will be from one of these other companies not BG or BBEC.

  • The comms hub is actually the responsibility of the DCC because of the inbuilt security. For example, if a hub needs a remote reset this is requested by the supplier and actioned by the DCC.

Thank you for your comprehensive answer. I think that I will wait and see in these circumstances. Octopus does read the electricity meter. The gas meter still has old Octopus rates although, I moved my gas to Zog quite sometime ago.
