Cheers both, feels like a bit of a swindle if I now have to pay cash rate (with a 5% higher unit charge and almost 20% higher standing charge) rather than direct debit rate until EDF complete the switch, through absolutely no fault of my own. Almost incentivises them to drag their heels on completing the transfer.
If they take too long to do the transfer, I think this will be a good case for a formal complaint.  Their incentives for charging the higher rate will soon go when we start sending the complaints to the ombudsman after the 8 week wait.
Did I read on this thread that Zog direct debits were handled by a 3rd party? Could be why they can’t port them over. If that’s the case, not really EDF’s fault
But they should at least allow customers to be able to setup a direct debit and be billed based on that from the start. Why should i have to pay a higher charge when I can do nothing to change that?

    Hi all,

Got the email today also.  I presume they will tell us how much to set our DD for in due course?

    Thanks

Edf certainly won't be wanting to make more losses than they need to so expect the DD to be based on your winter usage rather than a average of your annual consumption .  I'm expecting my DD to double.

Zog actually made a mistake when I took out my fix in July; they changed the unit rate and s/c but didn't adjust the DD. I'm still in credit but only just.
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    thanks @Robin9

For me, my DD never changed, throughout my years with zog, the amount they set my DD to was what they took every month.  I did build up some credit a while back so I request some of it back which still left some extra in it to aid with any high winter bills.  I'm currently in credit a fair bit so just need to wait for that to move over so my DD might not be too bad, when they take into account my credit, unless they decide to refund my credit and make the DD higher.
I always prefer to be in credit as that way if we get a very cold period, I don't have to worry about finding the additional money as it comes off my credit :)

That's the weird part I never understood with my waste company, they estimate my usage and always set to DD to a fixture which when you multiple by 12, is always a bit short of what they estimated. almost like they want you to owe them money lol.  I now adjust my DD so that over the 12 months I end up with a bit of credit so that the total bill is covered.  This year I've left the DD to what they set as the estimated usage and the amount they charging me plus my credit is more than they predict so will see how that goes now.

This is why I'll be going for the variable DD option where you pay for exactly what you use each month.

My past experience of EDF is that they liked to hike the DD for no reason at all. In 3 years of very similar prices, and virtually identical usage, they tried to add £20 to it about 5 times. I had to go online and request it be set back where it was each time, and give my reasons. They always did it though, and the balance was always about £10 positive at the end of the year.

It's almost like they want to build up a chunk of your money in their bank.
  • Not sure this has been mentioned, but I went onto the EDF website and managed to create a new online account using the email address that Zog have for me, and I can now see on the EDF account that there is a switch in progress for my Gas supply.

Can also see all my address details etc. (i've never been with EDF previously)

I haven't worked out yet how to sign up for Direct Debit, doesn't look like that's possible at this stage.
  • As far as I can tell, my Liberty Secure smart meter is not adopted. Will my gas meter be dumb for EDF?
I have osteoarthritis in my hands so I speak my messages into a microphone using Dragon. Some people make "typos" but I often make "speakos".

Yes, it will be 'dumb' if it hasn't been E&A'd yet.
