  • Oh well, another account I get to close and streamline then. Need to keep an eye on when this is coming in.

Oh well, was good while it lasted. The two direct debits can now be used more productively elsewhere as Blue Rewards can be cancelled as of no benefit.

Just contacted them again and they told me the changes will apply from April 2022 onwards.
Thank you for your endeavours, @lambshank13

They will also be launching other offers and promotions exclusive to blue rewards. As yet no details, but no doubt they will be spun in a way where all they are doing is just polishing a turd.

Great! They give you £5 and take away £5 net result = £0. Wonder who came up with that?
Worse, taken at face value that message suggests if one of your two DDs fails for some reason then you'll get £0.

Which means that unless they waive the fee for that month, the net result will be £-5.00.

The loss of PO DD's meant dropping Blue Rewards was something I was already considering. If the new T&Cs are as suggested then the decision is made.

@mjmal51   My thoughts precisely... this is a bad move on their part and it will definitely affect customer retention. They are basically pretending there is a reward, they dedicate a whole team to managing said rewards and the customer gets nothing.

It's my oldest account and I have a mortgage with them so I'll stay. Will still get £3 so my loss is £5 as compared to now, but at least I don't have to pay for the 'privilege'...

PS. @lambshank13 thanks for the screenshot. I'm surprised that they revealed the changes in a customer chat... I'm pretty sure that should've stayed confidential until released publicly :)
Yes I wasn't expecting them to reveal anything.

I'll keep the account running for the time being but once the changes take effect it'll become an account for switching.

Ah, so the scenario they sent me as a possible ie raise the fee to £5 and reduce the rewards is in fact a 'done deal'! Not sure why they asked my opinion.......There were some other so-called rewards mentioned- but all non-monetary.
Add Barclays to the switch list. (Plus they are closing our local branch in January)
