Sounds like you've made the right decision. So the problem was your storage heaters weren't suitable for your property.
My flat is about 30 years old and still has the original storage heaters. I'm lucky that I'm warm 24/7. It also meant that when I retired and was home all day there was no increase in my energy consumption.
I've kept a leaflet on those smart storage heaters as that is what I will buy to replace the current ones should they stop being efficient.
I would think very carefully about replacing your storage heaters with smart ones.
we had the originals when we moved in three years ago, they were 35yrs old, installed when the flats were built and rusty! We bought two new smart heaters thinking they would be good. They were nearly £1000 for both, a large for the living room and a small for the hall, the flat is a tiny retirement flat. You set the temperature digitally and the heater works how much night storage heat to put in. If that’s not sufficient to heat all day the convector cuts in to maintain the set temperature.
we found it was so hot some mornings we had to open windows! The heat even without opening windows wasn’t enough to last all day without the extra convector cutting in. This was very expensive, hence the reason for now just using the heaters on convection during the day and changing from E7. We would have been better to buy ordinary convectors as we now have the same thing just three times the purchase price.
we’ve found heating the flat like this so much better, we control the heat we need and it is less expensive.
It's good that you've now found the most efficient way of heating your flat. Nothing worse than being cold.0 -

I STILL have no account setup with Shell! I rang them last Tue (6 days ago) and after a little foot stomping, they offered to manually instigate the process there and then. I spent some 10 minutes giving them all requested info, contact details, DD authorisation, etc. and was told that my account would be set up and I would be emailed. To date - still nothing! I know that Green were being blamed for a poor handover, and that the situation is 'unprecedented', but Shell's performance to date has been absolutely shambolic!0

I suspect Shell are simply overwhelmed by the sheer number of customers they've taken on. What I don't know is what were they like for customer service and efficiency prior to taking on the customers from failed energy suppliers? Is anyone who reads this thread a legacy customer and can comment on standards of service prior to the massive influx of new customers?

I appreciate that the (big) companies have all been overwhelmed at times following SoLR decisions, but ultimately it's a computer that does the majority of the work, and other accounts (including my gas with Eon Next) were set up weeks ago!1 -
Still no bill - they managed to produce the first bill in Dec, so why no Jan one!?!?......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

Just had an e mail from shell, I asked why none of my energy usage was showing on the account, they’ve asked for a screen shot of the missing values. Logged on to supply one but can’t access the account, get the ‘sorry we are having problems, try again later’ message.
im still waiting for another bill as well. Logged on yesterday and all my information was missing.
I suppose it will get sorted in time.0 -
For anyone who's interested, I've just spoken to Shell, the delay in Jan bills is down to them waiting for another data load from ex-Green accounts, and they advised the Jan bill will be generated (as a one-off) late, towards the end of Jan.......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
