I set up my new Shell direct debit as instructed. I didn't cancel the Green one and Green have continued to take another payment today. The payment isn't showing up in my account in the Green app yet. Just a warning to anyone that didn't cancel the DD..
Green took a DD from me in October, then I had an email from Green saying there would be no further payments.   Nothing went out on the usual date in November.   However, I was doing some housekeeping on my banking on Tuesday  and went through all my DD's and cancelled all the ones that were no longer current.

If you had the email from Green about no further payments, you could copy that to your bank and ask them to recall the DD.   Or just wait, I'm sure it will get sorted.
I don't seem to have an email from Green saying there would be no further payments. What date did you recieve that and from which email address?
GregK2 - I received that email on 20th October, DD had gone out on the 12th October.

Email was from Green <help@gocardless.com>  Email title was Your subscription to GREEN SUPPLIER LIMITED has been cancelled
Thanks for that, have only got the email from that address when my DD was first set up, so I must have been missed from the list for cancellation.

GregK2 - looks like your cancellation of DD was overlooked then.   If your payment doesn't show on Green's website maybe ask your bank to recall?

@fewkeste. I totally understand Oliver's workload. I expect the problem is meters have to be registered on a national database which takes time and that time will be longer then Oliver expects the adminstration if green accounts to take.  He has got back to me today in fairness explaining that the estimated readings when converted to the new meters aren't far out. He has a point with electricity it's a mere 25 kWh overbill

But with gas though it appears to only be 10 meter units over its actually a lot more because the old meter was in cubic feet. New meter in cubic metres. A conversion factor of 2.83 is necessary so its 28.3 Cubic metres over a massive 316kwh.

I have taken this up with shell now

My final bill from Green stated that they will take a final DD for double usual amount and collect remainder I owe them via administrators (I owed over £100)……and got an email today confirming this new DD set-up for the increased amount to be take next week.

Given that "smart" meters aren't and you have no guarantee that a company taking over another will get the readings, it really does make sense to look into how to take a manual reading from your smart meter and use that when changing an electricity company (or existing one goes bust). Otherwise you end up with inflated "estimated" readings.

@Bacman that's why I have photos and endless Manual readings.  I can't even see my readings on shells site or submit one (other than by email ). As You say smart meters seem to not really be that smart . I gave bust green loads of actual Readings from my smart meter and the leccy one was supposedly being read by greens meter system. See this pic for how stupid the situation is. They've billed on old removed meters estimated readings (26th sept) and ignored the smart readings that meter was sending them.

Credit where it's due. After discussions with shell and Oliver at greens administrators final bill has been amended to reflect my readings  and all is now correct .

Oliver has been very helpful in this matter

Just a heads up that the 2nd is available as a direct debit date today... so if you're like me and want your direct debits to go out at the start of the month, you can set it up now!
  • @Tafrock Your meter reading summary earlier is even worse than mine. The Green system was obviously not picking up the reading submissions properly, and hence only showing 3 digits instead of 5. Marvellous.

I'm not expecting to hear from Shell Energy again until the New Year (2023). Too cynical?

Meanwhile, I understand that the boss of Shell Energy has packed in after 9 years...(true).

@Deleted_User apologies for the confusion. No it was displaying all digits. My meter was swapped to a new smart meter. The 3 digit readings are either actual smart readings on the new meter or readings supplied by me. The 5 figure readings are estimates by green of a removed meters readings. At removal this meter read 14957. See here for the actual changeover period . They produced estimates for my old meter right up to 13th October even though meter was defunct from 3rd sept and new meter was sending smart readings
