I have a smet 1 meter that has been dumb for ages. I read somewhere that the smet1's didn't need to be replaced they could be upgraded with an update?

I have a SMETS 1 meter and I'm getting 30 minute readings sent the day after as well as the usage. I signed up for it as soon as it was offered on the website. I only have to put in gas meter readings which it isn't doing. Maybe the only smart thing with the gas meter is that it connects to the IHD, which I no longer have, water damage in 2015 floods. If offered that option take it and get the readings in 30 minute or hourly segments it certainly worth it.

  • When you setup the Direct Debit via your Octopus Dashboard it should have brought forward your existing Avro Direct Debit monthly amount and collection date.
    It didn't.
Have you got a "Change my payments" option on your Octopus Dashboard main page? What option are there when you access that?

Anyone find that electricity usage is behaving oddly since being with Octopus? My usage is extremely different week to week even though I am doing the same things!!
Erm no. Octopus don't physically supply your electricity or affect how you use it. Maybe you are misreading your meter?

It's probably best to wait a few days and I'm sure the "You are paying a variable amount depending on your usage" message will change to something more meaningful when Octopus move your transfer further along. Just keep checking for any changes to your Dashboard each day.
The lack of daily updates from Octopus is not helping.

My SMETS1 electric meter became active again shortly after octopus took over, I noticed my gas meter wasnt sending them readings and was asking me to input my own, I emailed them to make them aware of this and they have now managed to connect to my gas meter and it's now sending readings automatically

I was considering that, a one off payment so to speak.  What put me off is the lack of information on the website so I was concerned that any one off payment I made would not show up or not end up in Octopus account!!
Other than any direct debits they may (or may not) collect, Octopus will not get any more money from me until my credit balance from Avro shows on my account. If their first statement shows me in debit, I will make a manual payment at that time - and not before.
I made a one off payment to my Octopus account because I don't know how long it will take them to get things sorted. I have used £80 in 53 days but I have an Avro credit of £171. If ex Avro customers are giving correct readings i.e. from their meter whether it's smart or not then I cannot see why Octopus can produce bills for ex Avro customers now with them.

I'm guessing that Avro credit of £171 will be reduced when Avro's administrators produce the final Avro bill to the 26th September?
Octopus can't produce any bills for ex-Avro customers because Avro's administrators have not yet provided Octopus with the Avro closing meter readings which become the Octopus opening meter readings. Octopus have no starting point to be able to bill ex-Avro customers from.

Both Octopus and my old company told me I had switched but that was a lie as they didn't even request to move the gas!!
So I am paying my old company tons for gas only due to this mess.
Your gas is with OFTM? Unless you've signed up to a fixed tariff recently, you should be paying around 4p/kWh (more-or-less the same as pretty much everyone else in this thread will be paying with Octopus).

If readings were needed on the 26/9/21 then surely that is close to the closing Avro reading and the opening Octopus reading?
