Santander £130 switch offer

Just wanted to give my experience as an existing customer. Phoned Santander switch team this afternoon. Switch done in less than 10 minutes. They confirmed even as an existing customer I would need to add 2 new direct debits (either from switched account or added to Santander account)  to qualify for the offer. Very simple process and no need to visit branch

Ha ha ..... see my post above yours......

MY customer service rep said the existing DDs on my account would suffice - no need for new ones!

We'll see........

(any others with experience on calls to do with switches into existing accounts?....)

I am trying to figure out whether the £1,000 that moves with my switch from Virgin Money counts towards this, or whether a separate deposit is required???

Easy to administer either way. Just curious.

Any thoughts?

It should count - but why take chances? Presumably you won't have any difficulties shuttling money between banks, and you have 60 days to do it in.

I have done exactly that as my earliest branch visit appointment was second week of October.

Opened a second Everyday account, so you can have at least two.

Am expecting a hard search tbh. (Appeared on Experian last time I opened one. Too early yet obviously)

Just to clarify is that a second sole everyday account?

I currently have a sole 123Lite and sole Everyday, I’d like to open 2nd Everyday for this offer, which I think you’re saying is possible all be it will result in hard search.

Yes.

I now have TWO sole personal Santander Everyday Accounts.

I just selected Secondary Account from the drop-down list when applying.

I have just opened another and setup switch, opened in minutes and available in app straight away.

Told him I wanted to make an appointment and what it was for. He said 'we can do that over the phone for you....' but couldn't because the relevant department closed at 6 and it was now 6:03. I mentioned all the commments on here and he said 'we have been made aware in branch that we can do this over the phone'

Second, I asked him the direct question about direct debits and he said they just have to be on the account being switched into - so no need to set up on the donor account.

So, we'll see what the customer services rep says when I finally get through tomorrow.

If either of these proves to be incorrect, it will turn into a 'misinformation' complaint ....

Points were already clear to people who read the thread: Mentioned on page 2 you can phone, along with a free phone number to ring; and an alternative to avoid phoning or branch visit on page 3...

Hmm. Doubt it: 4 takes against the same mandate is usually seen as one DD.
Can't you open another PO saver for a 2nd DD? (I've something beginning with N...)

Must 2 new direct debits be set up after the switch? "Within 60 days of you instructing us to start the switch"... So direct debits existing before instructing for a switch don't count?

Do you have to pay in the 1k in one go at the same time or could you recycle smaller amounts?

If the direct debits are switched over during the switch then they will be set up on your qualifying Santander account after you have requested the switch..
