    I've never had an account with Santander so I'm eligible for this offer :)
    "set up at least 2 active Direct Debits" implies to me that DDs on the donor account might not count as they weren't "set up" on the new account. Also with such a long wait time, we won't know what will work. Safest to have 2 DD on the donor account and then also set up two new ones on the new account so all bases covered.

    This is not investment advice.
    Your money may go "down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... down and up and down and up and down and up and down ... I got all tricked up and came up to this thing, lookin' so fire hot, a twenty out of ten..."

    Well that maybe what it means to you, but it's not relevant 'cos it's that's not what the terms says.

    You can indeed read that from the shortened details on the website (and I did think it could mean that at first), but the pdf with the full details does say

    Within 60 days of you instructing us to start the switch to the Qualifying Account, you will also need to have:
    2.3.1 successfully completed the switch, which includes closing the account not held with us;
    2.3.2 at least two active Direct Debits in place on the Qualifying Account;
    2.3.3 funded your Qualifying Account with at least £1,000 (either by one or more deposits); and
    2.3.4 logged onto Santander Online or Mobile Banking at least once.

    so that seems much clearer and does indicate that you just need to have two DDs on the donor account.
  • Have anyone been offered a Santander credit card while applying for their current account?
    Some banks do that. Nationwide and HSBC offered me their cards during applications for teir current accounts. I accepted both as it means one less hard search and another direct debit which can be useful. In case of HSBC it was also an additional £25 bonus.

    You don't actually need to have two DDs on the donor account as there is nothing in the T&Cs that says you need to switch 2 DDs.

    If you want to do a belt-and-braces, switch 2 DDs, and also add 2 more DDs to your Santander account, unless that Santander account already has 2 DDs anyway. I have already set up 2 new DDs on my new Everyday account now, and I'll be switching another 2 in.

    I would, and will, also make sure the £1,000 come from a non-Santander account. Whilst the T&Cs don't require this, it will avoid any debate they may want to have later on about it.

    In order to avoid a branch visit, would it be possible to open another new account online and switch in to that new account ?
    Is there any limit to number of accounts imposed by Santander ? ( I already have one Joint and one individual Santander account )
    Do they hard search you for multiple accounts ?
    Has anybody been successful in trying this out ?

    I have done exactly that as my earliest branch visit appointment was second week of October.

    Opened a second Everyday account, so you can have at least two.

    Am expecting a hard search tbh. (Appeared on Experian last time I opened one. Too early yet obviously)
    Just to clarify is that a second sole everyday account?

    I currently have a sole 123Lite and sole Everyday, I’d like to open 2nd Everyday for this offer, which I think you’re saying is possible all be it will result in hard search.
    Yes.

    I now have TWO sole personal Santander Everyday Accounts.

    I just selected Secondary Account from the drop-down list when applying.

    I am trying to figure out whether the £1,000 that moves with my switch from Virgin Money counts towards this, or whether a separate deposit is required???

    Easy to administer either way. Just curious.

    Any thoughts?

    It should count as it's a deposit within 60 days of you instructing them to start the switch.
  • Well, either I had a customer service rep who didn't know what he was talking about .....or .... I can clear up a couple of points.

    First - According to everyone on here you have to go into branch to switch into an existing account.  I got through on the phone (after a wait of about 40 minutes ....) Told him I wanted to make an appointment and what it was for. He said 'we can do that over the phone for you....' but couldn't because the relevant department closed at 6 and it was now 6:03. I mentioned all the commments on here and he said 'we have been made aware in branch that we can do this over the phone'

    Second, I asked him the direct question about direct debits and he said they just have to be on the account being switched into - so no need to set up on the donor account.

    So, we'll see what the customer services rep says when I finally get through tomorrow.

    If either of these proves to be incorrect, it will turn into a 'misinformation' complaint ....
