Apologies if I missed it up thread, but on the subject of whether you've previously received an incentive, both my Santander current accounts were switched in to for the Amazon bonanza a couple of years ago. They have the following product names displayed in my secure area:

Product name: 123 LITE CURRENT ACCOUNT SWITCHER
Product name: EVERYDAY CURRENT ACCOUNT SWITCHER

If Santander only started this "switcher" naming format during the Amazon period (and haven't used it since, even for none incentivised switches) then should be a very easy job for them to weed out the chancers among us?

But those terms merely confirm you switched an account in.  You don't know (do you?) whether it's a term they used before and/or since.

At face value it doesn't imply anything, surely, about getting any incentive at the time.

Edited to add:  I see Ed-1's post, posted as I was composing mine, suggests it is just a generic term, nothing to do with incentives.

Trying to find out if I received an incentive when I originally opened a 123 account in 2012, still can login and have a basic current account, but can see no facility to send secure message or online chat. Looks like will need to download the app.
I couldn't remember if I had or not when i opened mine in 2015.  I have done a date search or the transactions on internet banking (using the main desktop site, not mobile banking)  this evening to see, and cannot see any payments that suggest that i did do get a switch incentive, so you may be able to try that?

In order to avoid a branch visit, would it be possible to open another new account online and switch in to that new account ?
Is there any limit to number of accounts imposed by Santander ? ( I already have one Joint and one individual Santander account )
Do they hard search you for multiple accounts ?
Has anybody been successful in trying this out ?

I have done that today, got confirmation of account being opened, not showing on my internet banking, got a message on email today confirming it is opened, but need to post them a form with a photocopy of my ID so that they can link it to my existing santander profile, so looks like they know i am a customer already.

this is what was in the email:

    What happens now?
Your account is ready to use. We'll send you your bank card and PIN in the next 5-7 days.
When we open your account we check to see if you’re already a Santander customer. From some of the personal details you gave we think you’re already one of our customers.
Please complete the attached Change of Details form† with your most up-to-date information and send it back to us. Once we've received this we can link all your accounts. It’ll also help us protect you from fraud.
Along with the completed form, please enclose a photocopy of any one document from List 1 (Proof of Identity) from the attached Customer identification requirements document.
How to send us the documents
--•--Photocopy the ID ensuring that where appropriate, they are the most recent documents that
--•--you hold. Please don't send us originals - a photocopy is fine.
--•--Write on the back of every photocopy, your online application number, your name and your
--•--date of birth. This is so we can link your documents to your original application.
--•--Post your documents to the following address:
    Freepost RRTL-RXRL-JUEA
    Santander Account Opening – BANK
    9 Nelson Street
    Bradford
    BD1 5AN

To be able to use Online or Mobile Banking to service your new account you need to return the Change of Details form and the appropriate ID. Once received, we'll either send you new log on details or if you already use Online or Mobile Banking, you will be able to use your existing details.

I have an HSBC current account with 2 DDs on it. Also got a monthly saver attached to it. This account matures on 9/10/21  Would using this HSBC account to switch prevent me from getting the interest on the saver?

2 Direct debits has to be setup with the old bank or directly with Santander once swich has been completed?

    • have successfully completed the switch, which includes closing the account not held with us
    • set up at least 2 active Direct Debits
    • pay at least £1,000 into the account, and
    • log on to Online or Mobile Banking.
Looks like its after not within the switch?

Active means running DD payments being collected until cashback is paid.
My understanding in relation to the Direct Debits is that they have to be in place on the Qualifying Account (this is your Santander account) within 60 days of instructing Santander to start the switch, not once the switch has been completed.

I am hoping so, as I am setting them up on the new account already, having instructed a switch today.

My Ecology application has gone for further verification.

Not sure why I could not be verified electronically like every other organisation manages to, however, I suspect it is going to be like Lloyd's and they will require my signature. A very out-dated requirement in the current age as it is never really required for a withdrawal or change of instruction, once the account is opened.

Same happened with Tesco Bank. Never needed to use it again, though they hold it on their file for whatever reason.

So 2 direct debits shouldn't be on my donor account and be part of switch? This will make me ineligible? Does it have to be set up on my new Santander account?

That's what I intend to do.

  • I've just applied - after hitting the submit button on my laptop, there was about a twenty second wait of a spinning wheel, and then my account details appeared on-screen. I already have a Santander credit card - so opened my app - and the account complete with overdraft was there set up and ready to go. Now that's what I call fast. I've just deposited my £1000, and there are two direct debits coming over from my old Virgin account, so let's see if it all works out - I'll report back in 90 days.

Same here... Applied online for an everyday current account, (I already have a 123 lite joint account) and the account details (sort code / Acc number) shown on screen after hitting submit. Account is showing in my accounts home page :)
Switch is set from nationwide FlexDirect  which has direct debits already, and which I only just switched to and just received the incentive bonus for that!
Hopefully £130 just before Christmas !
