My switch to octopus completed today, no sign of British gas attempting to take it over

Same with me yesterday to Sainsbury's. However, British Gas *were* recorded on the database as our gas supplier for the last couple of weeks so I guess they were successful in performing that switch but Sainsbury's have since taken it off them. Electricity went straight from PFP to Sainsbury's though.

I tried doing this, but unfortunately got blocked because of some 28 day rule on switches, even though the PFP to British Gas switch was due to the SoLR process. Sainsburys did their best to help but the switch was constantly getting blocked and in the end I've lost out on the 2 cheap tariffs available in September

Based on this experience of having two switches in almost as many weeks I don't see how there can be a 28 day rule in place. Perhaps it is being stated too literally by some to cater for the fact that things do take time and with the ability for blocks to be put in place you're best off not trying to compress the timescales otherwise things might not go quite as hoped. '28 days' sounds reasonable from that perspective, but of course isn't particularly desirable in a time when deals were starting to disappear and time is (was) of the essence.

I wish someone on here had first hand experience of how all this works 'behind the scenes' - not only would it be useful to know but I'd be interested in it too.

Finally my distributor has me down to BG.   Off to switch as BG tariff is astronomical. I'll take a chance on Neon Reef not going belly up in the short term - famous last words.

So octopus connected to my smart meter and are getting 30 minute reads, sent terms for octopus go that I accepted, all rather quick and efficient.

And they've put me on the quoted rates when going through the sign up and choosing an interim tariff, thought they'd use rates on the day moving to the go tariff was completed, which are now almost 10p a unit more expensive

I think I could do a little dance, only 3p higher than the pfp rates and half the price of pfp at night, 5p for 4 hours.

Has any ex-pfp customer managed to give BG a meter reading and have it show in your account portal? I gave them one via the link in the email and they are saying they don't have it. There is also no option to give one via my online account. I'm going to give it a day or two then call/text them if it remains missing

I've yet to hear back from British Gas since the "welcome to British Gas family" one they sent when they were appointed.  Hoping this is normal and I will hear soon.
  • Hi,
I'm the same gave them readings by email and app on 30/9, still not showing on account.
Checked app yesterday and was still asking for a reading.
Only showing Electricity in account, no word of Gas.
Wouldn't bother phoning, could be a long wait, will sort out eventually, just keep a regular note of meter readings.

After a brief stint with BG for gas I'm off to Sainsbury's luckily electric went over so I'm on the 2yr price fixed before they put the rates up  , switch confirmed by BG , I presume my outstanding PFP money will cover the bill as I'm in credit ?
