My email from BG says I'm paying by cash/cheque at such and such rate and if I were to pay by DD it would be such and such. But the rates for each are exactly the same.Verdigris said:McCreary said:Looks like the best thing for me to do is just stick with British Gas and ride it out until April. If they allow payment by Cash/Cheque for the new tariff without it impacting on the price per unit or standing charge is it best to do that and just pay for your actual usage?
It is very strangely worded. I am fairly sure you will need to set up a DD, when they ask you, to get the displayed price. I think the rates are higher for quarterly payments.0 -
Yes, I looked on BG's web page last night and the "The Peoples Tariff" rates were the same for DD or cash/cheque.t0rt0ise said:

I put in a switch to Sainsburys , i did get a email saying there was a issue and it was cancelled so didnt think anything of it
Just looked at BG account and Electricity is now going over but Gas isn't because of a issue
British Gas account says electric switch cancelled
Sainsburys says "Your switch is delayedReally sorry - we've had a bit of trouble getting you over to us.
The industry body that oversees switching has temporarily stopped your move to us.
There's an error in their data and were working with them to fix this for you as soon as possible.
This might delay your switch a bit, but we'll keep you updated as we go."
Will it be British Gas stopping it ?

Yes when I looked on the website it displayed the same tariff for cash/cheque and direct debit. My logic with paying my cash or cheque was that I only pay for the usage I use which means I don't end up having credit but also if I pay it on my rewards credit card I'll get points on the spend which is at least something back.QrizB said:

Good point about credit card points. I would usually get Cashback on fuel direct debits in my Santander 123lite account but I would rather not set up direct debit with BG given their ridiculous estimate for my use (a thousand pounds a month, haha)McCreary said:

Good point about reward card payments. Might as well get something back from the price hike. As I should be moving before April it will make for a clean getaway, too.

Ah yes, hadn't thought about that. I get 2% back with Santander but I am slightly concerned about the direct debit amount they will ask for!Verdigris said:Good point about reward card payments. I’m on dual fuel with PFP and Just been notified my electric will be moving to British Gas but no word about gas supply yet.. will this be sent separately from British Gas?Anyone else has sep notifications?
thanks0 -
I haven't had anything yet from BG other than the two initial emails. I shouldn't worry too much, switches under the SoLR process often don't work like normal switches. It takes some time and they'll likely be doing things in batches as theres thousands of accounts to get moved over.Angel5125 said:I’m on dual fuel with PFP and Just been notified my electric will be moving to British Gas but no word about gas supply yet.. will this be sent separately from British Gas?Anyone else has sep notifications?

You can find out who the industry databases list for your supplier online:
Gas: https://www.findmysupplier.energy/
Electric: Not quite as straightforward as you first have to work out who the network operator is for your region, then find out from their website who is listed as your supplier Finding your energy supplier or network operator | Ofgem
Once those sites list British Gas then you'll know your supply has been moved. Everything else like online account access and welcome packs etc are just admin at BG end.1 -
Gas and electric are usually out of synch on transfer. It'll catch up, eventually.
