I have been put on the BG Price Promise April 2022 (Gas unit rate 4.47, Standing charge 26.12p per day, Elec unit rate 20.59, Standing charge 25.09p per day). They have for some reason put my payment method as cash or cheque and not DD which I have always paid by with previous suppliers. Is this likely to have affected the rate they have put me on?
They say those who cancelled the direct debit will pay cash or cheque and have a higher rate. Totally unfair and something we'll have to argue about later.

I managed to access my BG account this afternoon by entering my email address and using the password reset option.

It states I'm paying by cash quarterly, despite not cancelling my direct debit with PFP. Presumably BG will be contacting everyone to ask for bank details to set up direct debits in the next few days.

My standard, digital meter was replaced by smart meter on 1st of July. That meter never reported to PfP and was going down for days.

It was replaced with different brand meter (EDMI ES-10B) on 1st of September and that one correctly reported to PfP, it was configured as Eco 7 and was reporting day and night reading every day untill 11st of September.

My in home display only shows one reading, so I went to check on the meter and it shows one reading too. I read manual for the meter, but it didn't help. There's just current reading and total bill cost. Flipping through options doesn't show any other reading.
It sounds like EDF has reverted the meter to a single register. You can calculate the R2 figure by deducing the R1 figure shown on the meter from the total index reading shown on the IHD. I cannot speak for EDF but Octopus always bills on a single register for its time-of-use tariffs using half hour usage data.
I can only see one number on the meter, so can't deduct anything to get day and night number. Meter says my provider is still PfP.

When GNE went bust and EDF took over, EDF managed to get the DDs re-assigned from their end without any customer involvement. If you've cancelled your DD that option won't exist and you'll need to set up a new one.

I haven't cancelled my DD with pfp. I am in credit by around £130 so didn't want them taking any DD cancellation fees out of that.

It sounds as though BG hasn't finished setting up the accounts yet then.

My credit balance has gone up, despite me cancelling the DD and no payment leaving my bank. It says they received payment on the 13th. How bizarre of their system to say they have. I expect it is automatic and it'll adjust soon enough. Anyone else had that?
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Just heard on the BBC news that 4 energy companies will fold next week. Not much chance of getting a decent quote so the BG tariff will start to look unbeatable. Might be looking for a new gas company if mine is one of the 4.
I wouldn't believe all the predictions you read in the newspapers.
The government are now stepping in, so "will" is quite a bit too strong.
  • So BG have now sent through their Tarif details.

    PFP unit rate: 11.22p
    PFP standing charge 18.22p

    BG unit rate: 20.680p
    BG standing charge 24.113p

a recent email from BG assured me that these prices where cheaper than available on comparison sites.

on CEC I see Sainsburys energy offering

    unit rate: 19.818p
    standing charge 17.262p

    no early exit fee's.

I hate it when companies try and mislead people.

Had I not waited I would have had an even cheaper deal!!.

the switch to BG is slated to be on 30/09/2021.

Really annoyed that we've been mislead like this.

This is what BG stated to us on 16/09/2021

We’re setting you up on our Price Promise Apr 2022 tariff
We’ve created a new tariff for our PFP Energy customers - and its currently cheaper than any other tariffs on price comparison websites. We’ve competitively priced it in line with the Ofgem energy price cap and it doesn’t have an exit fee.

They shouldn't be allowed to write stuff like that when its not true. at the time they sent the email they hadn't published their Tariff's so no way to confirm what they wrote.

New contract just arrived. My mum in law uses 4500 KW of electricity and 11000kw of gas per annum.  According to BG they project over the next 12 months she will use 15,500 kw of electricity and 21,000 kw of gas. She lives on her own. Also has been put on the cash/cheque tariff until April 22. Like others she never cancelled her dd.
