As I posted on another thread, I received emails from British Gas a couple of hours ago, asking me to set up my password. I did that and have an account page but the supply doesn't start 'til 1st Oct. I just checked who my supplier is though, and it now states BG rather than PFP. Think I'd be ok making a switch to Sainsbury's now?
Whereabouts are you looking to check who your supplier is please?
    Ofgem had the links.

    https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/finding-your-energy-supplier-or-network-operator

    Here for gas: https://www.findmysupplier.energy/webapp/index.html

Electricity is more complicated, you have to search for your network operator, go to their website and then check your supplier with them.

    https://www.energynetworks.org/operating-the-networks/whos-my-network-operator

I have just done that and my elec supplier is.....

    Pfp 😭

I have found out the Sainsbury's offer ends mid-October though and BG is definitely taking over by the 1st so I should be OK moving to Sains.
So will you wait until 1 Oct before you switch to Sainsbury's? I'm worried they might pull the plug before then
I'm going to wait a few days, and keep checking. I'll switch around a week before at the latest.

I want to switch to the Sainsbury's fix.  Do I say that my current provider is PFP or British Gas?  I have checked, and I am still listed as on PFP for both gas & electricity.  However, if I start the switch today then surely after the 14 days cooling off, I will be with British Gas?  Or should I wait until I am definitely with British gas before switching?
I've switched to the Sainsbury's fix on Wednesday, and it didn't ask me who my supplier was. You can track the switch status on your sainsburys account and today it says it has been checked against the industry and is on track to switch for 2 October. I have also checked on check my supplier and it has now updated to British Gas. I would say switch - the ofgem advise is when a supplier fails wait for the solr to get in touch with a tariff which has now been done.
The sainsburys fixed tariff is the best deal right now. With the volatility in the energy market, this will likely get pulled within days.

Just heard on the BBC news that 4 energy companies will fold next week. Not much chance of getting a decent quote so the BG tariff will start to look unbeatable. Might be looking for a new gas company if mine is one of the 4.

Just had an email off British gas saying:

Your supply start date has changed to the last week in October!

I had already initiated another fix elsewhere which is due to take place this week, so will have to get BG to cancel
  • I just tried to sign up to Sainsbury's for dual fuel 24 months. Got as far as putting all my details in and clicked on "sign me up" only to get the message "looks like you only need electricity" and wouldn't let me proceed. So it looks like the gas has gone to BG, but not electric yet. Think I'll keep trying every day and see if that situation changes, either until the switch request is successful or Sainsbury's pull the offer. With the breaking news of 4 more suppliers expecting to go bust next week, all this really couldn't have come at a worse time.

There's still around 60-70 suppliers at the moment iirc.

Last week in October? That's a long while. I wonder why.

I've just noticed they've changed my supply address.

My address when I moved in years ago was along the lines of:-

    Apt. 13
    24 Glossop Street
    City
    Postcode*

The problem was recently on the internet, when selecting the address with those drop down menus it is just simply 13 Glossop Street (there aren't 24 buildings down the street so unsure why it has that in the address). Most of my paperwork now is in the simplified version.

BG had the correct address in their initial emails but now its changed to 24 Glossop Street which is wrong completely. Unsure how that will affect a switch.

    * Obviously my address has been changed.
