I've just checked the Sainsbury's deals for the one year and two year fixed rates. The difference between the two deals standing charges of both gas and elec together works out at around £50 a year. The two year fixed rate works out £100 more over that full contract term.

Which one would people choose? Think it's worth paying the extra to have the price fixed for an extra year?
There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

The unit prices are the same, just the standing charge a little more expensive on the 2 year deal. No exit fees though, so it would be a no brainer for me to get 2 years if only it would let me switch!

Appreciate your input. Not so sure I'll be allowed to switch either though.

  • I just tried to sign up to Sainsbury's for dual fuel 24 months. Got as far as putting all my details in and clicked on "sign me up" only to get the message "looks like you only need electricity" and wouldn't let me proceed. So it looks like the gas has gone to BG, but not electric yet. Think I'll keep trying every day and see if that situation changes, either until the switch request is successful or Sainsbury's pull the offer. With the breaking news of 4 more suppliers expecting to go bust next week, all this really couldn't have come at a worse time.
This happened to me and I telephoned sainsburys and they said it was an error with their website. The lady was very helpful and updated the website within 30 mins I was able to switch.

Thanks, I'll try calling them tomorrow, I'm still getting the same error.

If you go on Quidco, and use Quidco compare once you pop in your address it tells you what is.down as your supplier

I tried that and it said pfp. When I put that my suppliers for gas & elec were separate, they showed up as pfp & BG.

Can you try to quidco site and put your energy as different suppliers then see what it says? Wonder if it says the same as me.

  • Seems I have a problem with reading my new smart meter for electricity. It only shows total usage, without showing night and day separately and I don't now how to get that. I read meter manual and it doesn't seem to be possible.

Bright app doesn't show meter totals, only usage. Home display shows total as well.

Any idea, how to get detailed readings from somewhere? Another meter website or app? My meter stopped reporting to PfP website on 11th of Sept.
  • I've only just found out that PFP have gone best. What a total faff. I switched from Symbio to PFP only a couple of months ago, and never actually received a bill from PFP. Or a final bill from Symbio. I wonder how much all this extra hassle that's generated when a company goes bust and someone else has to take them over ends up adding to our bills from all the extra work that has to be done?

If I was setting up an electricity company, i wouldn't bother trying to get any customers. Just acquire them when the other companies go bust, then you can charge them whatever you like until they switch away. That's got to be the optimal business strategy, hasn't it?

My meter has a button you press to scroll through the four registers. I'm on a single-rate tariff so only one register is counting, the other three read 00000. Yours should be similar (but not the same, unless you also have an Aclara SGM1400 meter).
I've signed up to http://www.n3rgy.com/ and I can download half-hourly meter data from there. This might let you get the detailed readings you're looking for.
