I'm in the middle of going over to Plusnet. I only took the contract with TT when I did because it was the cheapest. I believe the fee for breaking the 18 month contract is waived if you have signed up within a certain amount of time before the price increase, however I can't find the relevant page to include a link. having said that, they sent me an email saying I would be charged about £130, and that was after a long conversation with them where I was trying to sort out if the fee waiver would apply to me and repeated assurances by the person I spoke to that it wouldn't. I rang again today and have been put through to customer loyalty where they're trying to sell me an upgraded service for less money. I'm minded to ignore it and go with the Plusnet because with the £60 voucher, I'll get internet and mobile (unbundled) for £19.99 pcm. I'm not a big user of internet or phone, so the basic is enough for my needs.

Read your email VERY carefully.
The email I got telling me about the price hike, included (in the small print at the bottom)
"You can choose to leave us before 1st July 2021 without any charges. After this date, there will be an early termination charge if you cancel your broadband within your minimum contracted term. This must be done via phoning TalkTalk Customer Services."
This is an Ofcom regulation when the provider breaks the contract. Even though I phoned them and told them I was leaving within the time period and therefore without exit fees, I have had 2 emails and one letter through my door telling me there WILL be an exit fee of £175.....but I could avoid this by staying with them. This, in my opinion, is a scare tactic to intimidate folk to stay. They even phoned me last week offering to beat the deal of my new provider ( even though they don't know what package I will be on) and even talked of paying me compo..... all smacks of desperation to retain.
TT value me as a loyal customer (apparently) and don't want me to leave.
They have a bloody funny way of showing it !2 -
@jazzy, unless pay upfront for a year, like all the rest of us you'll pay the CPI + 3.7% increase next April.0

After speaking to someone on Talktalk helpline I was assured I was having fees waived. When they sent an email with charge, I called that number, "loyalty section". They said I wouldn't be charged, then made an offer and said they'd call back but didn't. I called again today saying I was leaving and had the fees been waived? They hadn't.It was only then that the fees have been waived and I received an email - I may have some phone charges (probably from calling the various Talktalk helplines) showing that I won't be charged the eyewatering £130- odd I received as an email at first call. It's really worth re-checking and getting an email with details if you're trying to leave because of price-hike.1

Ugh, got this email too, like many others I thought I was on a fixed contract and didn't need to worry about this nonsense for a good long while. I don't care what talktalks or Ofcoms rules say, it should be illegal to advertise as no price rises and then introduce price rises, they should have to honour the contract.I suppose ranting isn't going to help, need to be pratical. If I call them up and they don't offer me a retention deal I like, or any deal at all, where does that leave me with a "cancelled" contract. It'd be a little difficult to sign up to somewhere else (especially with money saving offers in mind) with no internet access at all. What a pain.0

Pick the deal you want to go for, contact TT, ask for retentions and tell them you`re leaving because they have broken the contract by increasing prices.
They will then offer a better deal.
Haggle and say if you don`t get a better deal, you`ll move to whoever you have chosen.
Easy, plenty on here have done exactly that.
Ranting on here won`t get you a better deal but contacting retentions will.

I phoned TT to cancel, intending to go to vodafone, but got offered £21.95 a month for Fibre 65 + unlimited calls on an 18 month contract, with £5 off for the first 3 months and a £100 bill credit.
I'm staying put.

read your post, been with TT years, wasn’t happy with the hike.
I was on £25.45 when I started new 18 month contract beginning of the year, for 38mbs
then £2 rise for calls package, then the latest rise, taking it to £29.45.
was just gonna leave it but after reading your post, just rang them, told them about yours, got 18 month @£21and £5 reduction for first 3 months, so £16 pm .
I always haggle when renewing contract, but saw ad for newbies @£25pm for 65and free calls, so went for it .
see what I get when e- mail arrives, should be ok !👍
