After a short discussion with TalkTalk, I was offered a great retention deal that wiped the floor with anything else I could find (even when considering inclusion of cashbacks an other incentives). Better than what I was on.
Furthermore, as I received £120 cashback to join them initially, the reduced initial term was even better value.
Play them at their own game. It's an opportunity to leverage your own position.

It is totally unacceptable as has been said, it was quite clear that the price was fixed for the full contract and they shouldn't just completely ignore that and increase the prices. The further insult is that they then say that if you pay a bit extra you can have a guarantee that there will not be a price rise - what is to stop them increasing it again and just saying tough, take it or leave it.Talktalk have genuinely lost a lot of reputation regarding this (let's face it they didn't have much of a reputation in the first place). My parents have got the same letter, they phoned TalkTalk and negotiated a £4 discount so are now paying £2 less than they were before the letter. After the phone call, they got an email confirming the change - with a £30 admin charge for changing the contract, arrggh. They phoned again, the operator told them there was no way that they wouldn't have been told about the £30 charge so my mum insisted that they listened to the recording. A couple of hours later they got a call confirming that it wasn't mention in the phone call (no apology what so ever). They agreed to waive the fee but they'd have to wait until the next bill and then phone yet again. Not good at all, but to be fair to TalkTalk, the next day a manager phoned and did apologise and removed the £30 charge. They did appreciate that, though it is such a debacle.I'm also with TalkTalk as they give me 900meg upload and 900 meg download for £25.70 so I don't really have much of a choice but these sort of things really leave a bad taste in your mouth.0

It's a contract that you both agreed to abide by. They have decided to breach the contract, which is why they are allowing affected users to leave penalty free.
It's not unique to TalkTalk. I have had the same with Sky and BT in the past. If you're shrewd it can be a good opportunity to manipulate to your own financial advantage.
I appreciate that negotiating a good deal is not to everyone's taste or something everyone is comfortable with. Particularly if it's not a technology or market people are familiar with.My farts hospitalize small children0 -

And in their sales bumph, "No mid-contract price rises" needs *
* there WILL be price increases but only inflation..... oh... and 3.9%.... and the same again next April.

This is stated in the email you will have received, telling you that they are increasing the cost and changing your T&C's.
You need to make clear to them, that you are opting to leave penalty free due to their change of terms, and that you are doing so within 30 days of being notified of these changes.
I know it's a pain, but you have to play them at their own game.My farts hospitalize small children0 -
It tells you in the email that if you want to end the contract without penalty, you have to inform them by whatever 30 day notice date they give you.
If you tell them, they can`t charge exit fees.
It`s all in the email.
Plenty of people who actually read the email ended up with better deals and paying less on a new contract than they were on the old contract.

Yes...... I DID read the email. Thank you for your suggestion. I had until 30/6/21 to cancel without a exit fee.
Just shows what a shambles they are.0 -
Avoid TalkTalk with a barge pole. I got rid of them in March/April and they've been horrific to the point where I still have an ongoing complaint with CISAS. Not even a proper ombudsman service. Ridiculously slow.

Just 7 months into 18 months fixed price contract , now it's going up by £2.50 pm . It's obvious tt is in the wrong otherwise why would they let you cancell without penalty , think ile phone them to cancel , I actually wanted to leave them anyway. May be cutting of my nose to spite my face by using another provider but fed up with their tricks.1
