Ok...but how do I phrase it...we think we want to switch back to (bt) because.....
What have other people said?0 -
Have a scout around and see what others are offering, and then ring ntl and say that you thinking of changing to sky/freeview etc, see what they say, if they don't offer you anything, just stay with them till something better comes along. By doing that, I now get 2mb BB for &17 pm afetr saying that Supanet were offering the same.0

sarahmoo,
How are you spending £9 per month on phone calls? Sign up for https://www.1899.com and use their freephone access number. All geographical calls will then cost only 3p each. No matter the length of the call. Use other companies to call mobiles (depending on time of day etc)- they are discussed on another thread.
Call NTL on the retentions number and ask them how you go about leaving their BB. They'll ask why. Tell them that you can get cheaper broadband elsewhere. Use the https://www.supanet.com example. NTL will counter with "Ah, but do you realise that you'll have to get a BT line to get Supanet BB?" You reply with "Yes, I know I'll have to leave NTL for my phone also". NTL are now faced with a customer bringing in £38/month about to leave. Say that you were in your local shopping centre and saw NTL 1mb BB being touted at a kiosk for £9.99 for new customers. Push for this price and go for a reduction in your line rental. You should really be on their 3-2-1 tariff....and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Thanks to you both....very useful indeed... i will now sign up for 1899.com too....
What is the 3-2-1 tariff?
Cheers for your help guys0 -

The 3-2-1 tariff is the £10.50 per month, the charges are daytime calls 3p/m, evening calls 2p/m and weekend calls 1p/m but local evening and weekend calls to a NTL line are free.
I have dropped my package to this one and signed up to 1899.com, I also bought an Orchid dialler to route my calls but I am having so much trouble with it.0 -
sarahmoo,
re 3-2-1 tariff, as fayraz says above.
But you'll never use it to make calls of course, thanks to 1899
So just the £10.50pm line rental, unless you can get them to chop it down, perhaps to nothing......and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Hi, Can someone please explain this 1899 to me. I went on the website, am I right in thinking if you are with NTL then you have to dial that very long number before you make a call! or is there another way round it. Thanks.0

angela2095,
Yes you have to dial the 0808 access number. Or get an Orchid V4 dialler to do it for you! See the sticky re these devices. I just use the freephone number....and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Hello people
As an earlier contributor, I have reread this long thread, and two questions now occur.
Most of us have been successful at getting a better deal out of NTL, and the common thread appears to be that they will offer you something for a year. Has anyone got to the end of the first year yet and had to renegotiate?
If so, How amenable were they?
Thanks
Nigel0 -
As the thread only started in June, I doubt anyone will have had to re-negotiate yet although you might find some people only got three months offered in some of the threads regarding NTL.
See the sticky at the top of the board regarding NTL phone, bb and TV0
