NTL/Telewest at it again! Make the call and save some cash...

Telewest and NTL are still two separate companies but are in discussions to merge (apparently could happen very soon).

Fed up with all the offers to new customers, I phoned ntl today [unfortunately before thinking of checking this message board]. I mentioned Freeview and BT Talk Talk and also moaned about being on our third box and frequent server outage. They gave me the 3 for £30 deal [saving of £9.49 per month] and also 2 months completely free. Reading some of the posts, I am now wondering whether i could have done better [like the free 1MB broadband for a year] and also wishing I'd phoned sooner [have been thinking about it for some time]. Is it worth trying again or should i just be satisfied with what i got?!0

We were paying £12.25 telephone line rental (including £1.75 for caller display) + £24.99 for 750k broadband = £446.88 per year
The first call to NTL resulted in an offer of £22.74 for 1mb broadband + telephone line rental to include free local weekend calls = £272.88 per year
In the second call, I was offered £24.99 for 2mb broadband, free telephone line rental + 1 years credit for caller display = £278.88 per year
When I phoned back to accept the second offer (and said unless there was something even even better they could offer?) I was told free 2mb broadband for a year with £12.50 for telephone line rental = £150 per year
Couldn't find what the catch was except a 30gb per month transfer limit which we're happy to accept. With this and 1899 it seems a good deal!0 -
Keep the pressure on people!
With all the money being saved, Christmas will seem just that bit cheaper...and then the window licker said to me...0 -
Finally got round to phoning this week - I noted that in they are offering £9.99/1MB to new customers (even on their website) and I was offered that for the next 12 months without any real discussion. We are now paying £39.99 per month for Family Pack, Line Rental and 1MB (plus have the Onetel free for a year evening and weekend calls) - is this good value or is there still a better deal to be had from NTL?
I am not keen on threatening to leave as I am quite happy with their service and they could call my bluff - as we do not have a BT line near the house it would cost over £70 if we had to move to BT.
My problem is we have family pack as there are really 2/3 channels not covered by the base pack that my children and wife watch and therefore loathe to loose this, otherwise could have gone for 3 for £30.
Many thanks

I got free broadband for a year and I am just on the base pack. SO I get base pack, line rental and broadband for £21 a month. You must threaten to leave to get the best deals!0

BarGin wrote:I got a similar deal after mentioning Freeview and UKOnline:
My existing 2MB broadband reduced to £15,50 plus free digital base pack and evening/weekend calls included in the £10.50 phone line rental.
Well chuffed.

I am paying ntl £13.99 a month (basic tv pack) and getting 2mb broadband and talk unlimited 24 for free. Haggle you be surprised what they will give you.0

There seems to be a pattern that people manage to get a bigger reduction with the base pack - has anyone experience of getting a good deal including the Family Pack, 1MB broadband and standard phone line? As I note above, I now have these for £39.99 (there is also the 3 for £30 offer on at the moment but that only includes base pack).
As I only called earlier this week I could do with a good reason to call back - are any of the deals that others have got promoted anywhere? Did you all have to threaten to leave?
Many thanks

I currently have the Talk Unlimited package but want to change to the basic 3-2-1 package and I have read in the small print this statement below:
"Calls outside the "unlimited call" element of these packages are subject to a call connection charge of 5p"
Does that mean every call I make I will get charged 5p if on the 3-2-1 tariff but with the tariff I am on now I only get charged the 5p connection fee before 6?0
