in Phones & TV
As NTL have just put the price up on their basic TV packages it could be time to revisit some old ground.
My friend has phone (3-2-1 tariff), 1mb broadband (£17.99/month) and basic digital TV package (£21.50/month). As the phone line rental is free, his monthly spend was £39.49/month + calls.
I got him to call the NTL disconnections (customer retention) on 0800 052 0243.
No sooner had he mentioned "freeview box" as an alternative to their package and indicated that he would have to go to BT for an alternative broadband supplier, they offered to put him straight onto the 3 for £30 package. Allegedly only available to new customers. Saving him £9.49/month.
He'll be using the free local calls at weekends that comes with the phone but 1899 for anything else.

I phoned them and told them I wanted to cancel all 3 services, to get a freeview box.... they said they had some special offers and they could offer me FREE broadband for the next year if I kept my TV and phone with them!
Saving = £17.99 per month! :j0 -
That and the Sky offering half-price for 3 months to potential cancellers shows what a cut-throat industry it is at the moment
I pity the people who don't know of these offers or are too scared to ask!0 -
I got a similar deal after mentioning Freeview and UKOnline:
My existing 2MB broadband reduced to £15,50 plus free digital base pack and evening/weekend calls included in the £10.50 phone line rental.
Well chuffed.

I had with NTL :-
2Mb Broadband @ £24.99 per month
Basic TV & Phone @ £21.50 per month
Total = £46.49 (actually costing just over £50 as I had some call package thing as well.)
12 months has just passed, so I rang them today. Said I was cancelling, as I could put together pretty much the same package for £30.49 (ish) per month. Took them 5 minutes, and from today, I now pay £31.49 for exactly the same package! SAVING just shy of £20.00 per month. Well worth the call, and if anyone has met the basic 12 months, then CALL THEM NOW!
In case you need to know, these were the options I had made them aware of:-
TV - Freeview box - no monthly charge (really only losing Sky One)
Phone - BT Together Option 1 - £10.50 per month
Broadband - Tiscali 2Mb (30Gb cap) with free modem, free connection, and free local and national weekend calls - £19.99 per month.

Following my phone call threatening to get BT Broadband, I now get 2mb ntl BB for £16 per month!0

Hi
I currently have my telephone through NTL & broadband.
I have the standard telephone pacakage & 300k Broadband.
I pay about £20 per month for telephone and £17.99 for broadband.
I rang customer relations yesterday moaning that i'm paying nearly £40 for something that new customers get for half the price and that if they want to keep my custom they will need to offer me something.
I was pleasently supprised by the response. They have offered a years free line rental thats £10.50 per month (£126 saved a year)
They are also increasing my broadband to a 1mb connection. I was wary of this as at the moment I have virtually no limit download. She said to me don't worry about your download limits as NTL it won't be a problem.
I only play online games so she said it shouldn't be a problem.
Overall I was very happy and I suggest to anyone to ring Customer relations. I saved myself £126 in about a 5 min telephone call.
I thought i'd share this with other MSE members

Hi Mark
I am with ntl and i was paying £17.99 for 1Mb broad band and £9.99 line rental. i called them yesterday and told them if they dont give me the present deal which they give to new customers i will leave...
Now I am paying only £20.49 per month for 1Mb broad band and Line rental + the fact that they gave me free unlimited calls for evening and weekends!!!!
Call 0800 052 0243 and ask them for cheaper monthly payment. I think i am using the same service as you but paying about £10 less than you.
Good luck with the call.0 -
Well done both, I am going to merge this with another thread where MSE users have made "that call"0

It's good to hear all these stories, but beware. How long are these offers valid for? I'd be interested to hear from all the people who've "made that call". I had a similair experience last year, I only have (had) phone & BB from them. Decided to switch to BT & they called me begging me to stay & offered me half price BB for 12 months. This lasted precisely 3 months & went back up, took no end of calls to get them to put it right. I have now left them, but have a battle on my hands as they are still billing me  .
