my mum justr moved house and her old package was standard phoneline, basic analog tv (with special digi connected ;)) and 4mb broadband. Bils of rpoughly £92 a month.

She moved and stupidly phoned NTL without tellin me (even though I told her not to do it until I was there and could speak to the operator) and got the 3 for £30 package which was 2mb bb, basic phone line and basic TV. Absolute garbage.

Her first bill came bill came in the other day, £60.04.

So I said no, u could be saving a fortune and as my little brother and also myself download a LOT, got her to phone them, give her details and give me permission to speak on her behalf as the non account holder.
To cut a long story short basicaly, we upgraded to talk unlimited (£14pm) and because of that we wewre offered an upgrade to the Large package of broadband (4mb, now changed to Large as its Virgin). I said no, I need 10 mb and as I was armed with the nifty list of broadband providers (not 100% certain how up to date this is but I also have a 18 month orange contract and can get 8mb bb unlimited foro£5 a month which was more ammo lol http://niftylist.co.uk/broadband/all/price/down/ managed to talk her inbto 10mb broadband at no extra charge so that was 10mb from 2mb.
We then moved onto TV packages, of wqhich we were on the basic, 35 or so channels. She said that was currently costing us £16.50 per month but because we had upgraded to talk unlimited she would be able to change up to the next package giving over 100 channels. This package was £20.50 but she was able to discount it by £10.50, therefore saving another £6.50. So we accepted that. She promised our bill would never cross £49 as long as we stayed off mobiles and did the old hang up on 59 mins thing.

So all in all, after making that call for my mum she will no doubt save a fortune has XL BB (10mb), XL TV (135+channels) and Talk Unlimited.

There is no doubt whatsoever if u contact customer services and say the right things, the right buttons will be pushed. I wil be phoning them back for further discount in a couple of months as I have read a huge page of success stories on another forum of ppl who have done so.
Bottom line is, if u pay ur bill on time NTL, or Virgin as now know, DO NOT WANT TO LOSE YOU, and wil take it up the farter to keep u as a customer.
Press hard but remain polite and just advise of what better offers are availableand they should help u out, unless u get a right lousy moany one but then just phone back till u get a decent operator!

    Good luck peeps
